As a eunuch in the Ottoman Imperial Harem, Olin has already lost his home, his freedom, and his manhood. His only wish is for a painless death, until he meets Dark Star, a beautiful odalisque who promises to give him his deepest desire. He refuses to believe her claim to possess a jinni in a bottle. But when Dark Star is accused of witchcraft, Olin rubs the bottle in desperation and discovers she’s told the truth.
Olin becomes the jinni’s master to save Dark Star, but it's not enough. In the complex world of the Topkapi Palace, where silk pillows conceal knives, sherbets contain poison, and jewels buy loyalty, no one is safe. With each wish, Olin must choose between becoming like the masters he detests or risk his life, his body, and his sanity to break the bonds that tie them all.

This is my stop during the book blitz for Counting on You by Laura Chapman. Read on for more information about of this book and there's an US only giveaway. This book blitz is organized by Lola's Blog Tours. The book blitz runs from 27 August till 2 September. See the tour schedule here.
Counting on You (Amarillo Sour #1) By Laura Chapman Genre: Romantic Comedy Age category: Adult Release Date: 28 August 2018 Blurb:
Is love worth the risk?
Math teacher Haleigh Parde has no desire to change her single status until she receives an invitation to her high school reunion. With her ex spreading rumors she needs a date and fast. Desperate times call for desperate measures and Haleigh finds herself meeting a blind date at a neighborhood bar called Amarillo Sour . . .
After watching Haleigh crash and burn, app developer Ian Henning makes her a proposition. If she'll provide honest feedback on his new dating app, he'll guarantee her a date to knock the socks off her former classmates. Even better, he—and the other Amarillo Sour regulars—will help her navigate the rocky road of dating.
Through setups ranging from awkward to absurd, Haleigh discovers her matchmaker might just be better than the matches. And Ian wonders if she's the answer to everything he's worked for professionally. Or is she something much, much more . . .
Review: I have to say I love it when characters have their geek going on. Haleigh is fab. I love that she's a Doctor Who and Torchwood fan! This is the second book in about a month that had a Doctor Who reference. Can I get a Squee please?
Haleigh is an interesting sort of heroine. She gave up dating after getting burned by her high school boyfriend, who is now super successful and coming to the 10 year class reunion. That whole premise could have spoiled the book for me, because of the very high school nature of the other teachers that are in her graduating class. Also, I have to say I can't fathom how some of them ended up teaching in the same school district they graduated from. That's quite an anomaly.
However the book is too adorable for me to be annoyed by that. I adored Haleigh and Ian more than I thought possible.
Ian the app developer is her perfect fit and you can easily see it from the start but how they get there is what makes this book so darn close to perfect. I just loved the characters and I really could identify with Haleigh so much, well except being a math teacher, I sucked at math, but her issues with panic attacks hit home for me. I know them. I have them. They aren't fun. The reaction to this issue by her ex makes him a big ole douche canoe for me.
Ian has his own issues, though his involve his dad that complicate his career as developer of apps.
Haleigh's experiences with the app to find a date for the reunion are comical at times, but not overly so, but these missteps help bring her closer to Ian, and that's all that matters.
Gossipy friends and a jealous co-workers send things topsy turvy, but it makes for a sweet conflict before the HEA.
This was just a wonderful read!

For Jesse James, the war will never be over. For Zee Mimms, the war is only the beginning.
The long, bloody Civil War is finally at an end when Zee Mimms, the dutiful daughter of a Missouri preacher, is tasked with nursing her cousin, Jesse James, back to health after he suffers a near-fatal wound. During Jesse's long convalescence, the couple falls in love, but Jesse's resentment against the Federals runs deep. He has scores to settle. For him, the war will never be over.
Zee is torn between deferring to her parents’ wishes and marrying for security or marrying for love and accepting the hard realities of life with an outlaw―living under an assumed name and forever on the run. For her, the choice she makes means the war is only beginning.

"A vivid, moving tale of the woman behind the man of myth and legend...a refreshing take on the woman who both inspired and outlived her partner's blaze of glory. This is a book not to be missed!" -Nicole Evelina, award winning author of Daughter of Destiny
"I am Mrs. Jesse James presents a woman who, far from being naive or complacent, shows us that pride and love can peacefully coexist against the most violent of backdrops." -Julia Bricklin, historian and author of America's Best Female Sharpshooter: The Rise and Fall of Lillian Frances Smith
"A beautifully spun, emotional tale of love and devotion in the most challenging of circumstances." -Sarah Angleton, author of Launching Sheep & Other Stories from the Intersection of History and Nonsense
Review: I have to admit I didn't know much about Jesse James other than the basics and what I saw on the Brady Bunch.
Yeah, so not that much, but the premise of this story really pulled me in. The woman behind the outlaw.
I mean how many of you picture Jesse James as a husband and a father? I know I never did. I never even thought about it. I never considered that the outlaw had a wife.
I was very impressed by the story of Zee Mimms. A pastor's daughter, who married an outlaw! I was constantly at google while reading this book.
This was a fabulous book about a lesser known character in history.

As the world mourns the loss of Diana, Princess of Wales, one young woman uncovers a forgotten story of passion, betrayal, and a scandal surrounding the British crown in this unforgettable novel by the bestselling author of The Secret Wife.
Two women who challenged the Crown.
Divided by time. Bound by a secret...
1911: When fifteen-year-old Mary Kirk meets Wallis Warfield at summer camp, she’s immediately captivated by her fearless, brazen, and self-assured personality. And Wallis has a way with the boys who are drawn to her like moths to a flame. Though Mary’s family isn’t crazy about her new best friend, she steadfastly stands by her side—even years later when they’re adults and rumors swirl about Wallis and her reckless behavior with none other than the Prince of Wales. But when Mary’s loyalty to Wallis comes into question, their friendship will be put to the ultimate test.
Review: This book brings all my favorite things to the table; the British Royal Family and history. I have to admit that knowing that Princess Diana was part of the story was a huge draw for me. I've been a Diana fan since I was a little girl. But this book tells another story too, that of Wallis Simpson.
Its actually the part of the story that involves Wallis that really makes the book so wonderful. Two women that changed the face of the monarchy, one that was well loved and the other not. I wish the Diana angle would have been more interesting.
It was Mary and Wallis that carried the story and they did it well. This was a beautifully written novel about two very important women.
I absolutely loved this book

AT FIRST, DAISY IGNORES HER CAT'S
DATING ADVICE.
Daisy will turn 40 in eleven months and
has never married. Her family figures Daisy is a loser because she is
still in college trying to avoid paying off her student loans which
have amassed over 22 years of a miseducation. And all Daisy has is a
cat to keep her company. To make the crises worse, her cat begins
talking to Daisy, when she is sober! The mess of Daisy's life is even
kookier because the cat is cursing and smoking now and drinking more
alcoholic beverages. Mm, there must be a connection to all this
flowing alcohol, which may explain the bubbly in Daisy's brain. Her
sisters and mother insist on setting Daisy up on six blind dates and
all the men are named after liquor.
A heartwarming, LOL book that will make
you smile.
Read an Excerpt:
Alrighty
then, Daisy would dive into the swamp of blind dating, feet first.
She would trust her sisters to hunt down the right man for her, men
vetted by referrals, five blind dates. From the lucky candidates, she
would choose which man was right for her.
Daisy leaned
back against the sofa with her eyes closed. The experience would be
like The Bachelorette television show, starring her.
Daisy could
see herself arriving in a white stretch limo wearing movie-star
sunglasses.
She waves her
hand at the crowds lined with encouraging posters.
WE LOVE YOU
DAISY!
GO, GIRL!
DAISY NUMBER
ONE!
She climbs
out of the limo, wearing a white fur coat and walking as if she owns
the world.
Two yummy
tuxedo-dressed men swing open the doors for her.
She smiles
with sparkling-diamond teeth as each doorman kisses a hand.
There stand
five hunky handsome men, each with a rose twirling in his hand.
She spins to
the camera, showing a flash of panty and making the men swoon.
“Hi, I’m
Daisy, and I’m your newest Bachelorette.”
Daisy winks
at the camera. “You’re in for some steamy hot tub moments this
season so don’t change the channel. I may seem like a lunatic
talking to my cat, but I’m not crazy. Trust me.”
She
drops the fur coat exposing the strait jacket she’s wearing until
Shakespeare stuck his rear in her face, tail up. “Scratch my butt,
won’t you Daisy? There’s a good girl; I can’t reach that spot.”
Review: This is probably one of the funniest books I've read in a long time. Daisy is nearly 40 and a hot mess. She has a cat that suddenly starts talking in a British accent and her family want her to find a man. Perish the thought that a woman could be complete without a man. Daisy was just unbelievable and the blind dates, and the names of the blind dates! It really is absolutely hilarious. I felt so bad for her and then again I didn't. I have to admit I questioned whether or not her sisters (all that have D names) really loved her, because the guys they set her up with were real doozies. All that aside, it is hard not to read this book without laughing out loud. The real star of this book was Shakespeare the cat and all the note and websites that ended the chapters. I have to admit I kept thinking that this would make a hilarious romcom and not in the sappy way a lot of them are, but a more physical type of comedy a'la Jim Carrey. This was a super fast, fun read. If you need a book that's a real pick me up, this one is it! Rating: 5 flowers

What’s your pleasure?
From Lynda Aicher, author of the bestselling Wicked Play books, comes an exclusive invitation to the Boardroom—where working late has its rewards.
Life is about power—who has it, who doesn’t.
Anyone who says otherwise hasn’t spent time in Kennedy Keller’s business-casual two-point-five-inch heels. A woman in a world very much run by men, Kennedy does whatever it takes to keep her power, in the office and outside of it.
Until she lets her guard down and decides to submit to a man for just one night. He’s everything she doesn’t usually let herself have: sexy, strong…dominant.
Matt Hamilton said goodbye to the Dom life years ago—power games and the delectable push/pull of dominance and submission might start in the bedroom, but it never stays there.
Reunited in the Boardroom, Matt and Kennedy test their desires and boundaries…and learn that one night is never just one night.
Lynda Aicher has always loved to read. After years of weekly travel implementing computer software into global companies, she ended her nomadic lifestyle to raise her two children. Now her imagination is her only limitation on where she can go and her writing lets her escape from the daily duties as a mom, wife, chauffeur, scheduler, cook, teacher, volunteer, cleaner and mediator.
Review: I don't often make the foray into erotica. I don't know why erotica must always = BDSM. Something about this book caught my interest and when all is said and done, I actually enjoyed it.
What I really loved was that Kennedy wasn't a sub. You have no idea how happy that made me. I also liked that these characters weren't twentysomethings. That was absolutely amazing. I also loved that Matt was a father and that his kids are older, 15 and 19 respectively.
Oh and there was an actual plot, something I find lacking in a lot of erotic erm..romance.
So I was more than pleasantly surprised at this story. I loved Matt's kids and I liked Kennedy's issues. I liked that Matt's kids cared about him and his relationship and that they worried about him. Even better, I liked that a relationship built between them, even though I wish there were some more mental connection between them. Yes, they both had high power jobs. Yes, they both were into a bit of kink. I just wish there was something real they had in common.
The sex was smoking hot in this book. REALLY REALLY HOT. It also started pretty early on in the book, from hotel rooms to a super sexy sex club called The Boardroom.
So if you are looking for erotica with a little more story, this is definitely a book to try.

Synopsis:
“Your
mother’s opiates are coming from Jose Herrera’s distribution
network.” My pulse races as my stepfather speaks these words.
Because taking on the Herreras also means taking on Diego.
Reckless,
and hardened by a volatile past, Victoria does not see a future with
Diego Herrera as a realistic option. As their
childhood friendship ignites, they find themselves on opposite sides
of a bloody feud between the two most powerful families in Mexico
City. And she’s a Moreno now—brought up to be the secret weapon
nobody suspected.
But
Victoria can’t deny the attraction. Diego’s commanding muscles,
the coarse, dark hair of his solid chest, that rugged scar above his
sensuous lips…
My body is spent. I want to feel him
release inside of me. I want to collapse on top of him. I want to
keep fucking like two animals that want to survive a wilderness that
is both beautiful and vicious. Our chests heave in a unison that
signals it’s not over and he starts pumping into me…
Except I’m not just an animal. I turn
my head towards the end table, lean over and grab his cell phone.
“Call them off.” I shove the phone
into his palms. “All of them. Tell them I’m not here. That they
made a mistake.”
Still pumping into me, his eyes grow
wider. “Don’t be fucking crazy. Let me walk you out of here and
make everyone believe that you’ve disappeared. At least for a
little while.”
He’s hitting that spot. That warm and
sensitive spot that makes me second-guess every decision and every
goal. That makes me curl up and want to be swept away and taken care
of even though I’ve never wanted it to be part of my long-term plan
because I’ve seen everything that my mother has gained and lost
by…being taken care of.
He searches my face for a place to
reason. “What I’m offering…they’re going to catch up to you
eventually. And before you catch up to my uncle again. He’s the
second-in-line to a multi-national business. You killed one of his
men last night. You almost killed him. You think no one noticed? This
would give…us a chance.” he pleads. Even though he doesn’t say
it, it’s the same proposal that he made on our trip, except without
the ring. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted. I’d always
been tempted.
I freeze. He’ll never know how many
times I ran over the circumference of the diamond band on that night
stand before I drove off, deciding on a different destiny. I knew the
moment I stepped in the old Peugeot that the tread would be forever
imprinted on my fingers.
“I can’t.”
The admission makes him choke on
whatever he was about to say and roar in frustration, because he’s
not the type of man to accept defeat.
His fingers fumble on the screen.
Awkwardly he holds the cell against his ear, spitting in Spanish.
He’s done what I’ve asked him to do.
He throws the phone, and then locks his
forearms around my neck, leading me closer to him. His cock is still
stiff, and it throbs inside of me, reminding me of why we’re even
in this position.
Cursing, his lips find mine, biting,
absorbing, demanding. And I reciprocate. I’m not unwilling. I never
have been. Our tongues tangle as our bodies begin to move in unison
again.

Sometimes the untold stories of the past are the ones we need to hear...
When Katie Garrett gets the unexpected news that she’s received an inheritance from the grandmother she hardly knew, it couldn’t have come at a better time. She flees Boston—and her increasingly estranged husband—and travels to rural Texas.
There, she’s greeted by her distant cousin Scarlett. Friendly, flamboyant, eternally optimistic, Scarlett couldn’t be more different from sensible Katie. And as they begin the task of sorting through their grandmother’s possessions, they discover letters and photographs that uncover the hidden truths about their shared history, and the long-forgotten tragedy of the New London school explosion of 1937 that binds them.

Review: The Daisy Children is another book with a stunner for a cover. I love when books with gorgeous covers are equally awesome when I've finished reading them.
Family sagas are probably one of my favorite genres.
Katie heads to Texas after her grandmother dies. She's having marital problems, so the trip is a somewhat welcome thing.
The story is told in the past and present, an all to common thing in these types of books, but it works well in this story. I was equally engaged in both sides of the story.
The story in the past involves the 1937 explosion of a school that caused 311 deaths when all was said and done. Several of the mothers decided to get pregnant shortly after the tragedy, thus creating replacement children.
A little creepy? Yes. But the mind does strange things after a loss.
This book follows one of the families that "replaced" a child.
With the help of a cousin Katie starts to uncover her family's past.
This was a fabulous historical novel.

Review: I'm totally in love with the Bayside series by Addison Cole. I'm also totally reading this series out of order.
I feel like the friends of Bayside are close friends of mine now. These are characters that I've come to love because they are just the kind of friends you want in your own life. They are there for each other probably more so than most of the friends most of us have. Yes, I'm jealous of them. I want friends like this in my life, even if their friendships are a little bit too perfect at times.
This story is Serena and Drake's and its one of my favorite tropes, friends to lovers. The two of them have been friends forever and they worked together for several years. Serena lands a new job in Boston, and that's the catalyst for taking their relationship out of the friend zone.
On the downside of this one, not only is this a friends to lovers trope, its also unrequited love story, which read a lot like another one of Addison's books Secrets at the Seaside, though there was more angst in that book. At least here Serena and Drake are smart enough to hook up.
What I really like about Addison's characters are how strong the heroine's are and how alpha, but without the controlling BS that the heroes are. Serena knows what she wants out of life and she goes for it, and she questions things too, including her career path.
There was more heat in this book that others that I've read. A lot of heat, really. Rooftop sex even.
Smoking.
That's what was going on.
Also cookies and donuts..and I need to get me some of each of sweets mentioned in the book. It makes me wish I were in Boston.
With each Addison Cole book I read, I have a new favorite.
