Review:  This book was like a breath of fresh air for me. I've been trapped in another romance genre and I needed a break.  I've read several of Karen's books for the Desire line and I've enjoyed each one and this one was no different.

Allison and Zane's story was a light read, with just about enough spice and drama to leave me satisfied.

File this under Friends to Lovers and brother's BFF.  Allison's brother Sean and Zane have been friends for ages and there is rule that Zane shouldn't put the moves on his friend's sister. It is a shame these two have very different ideas.

Both need a vacation and they end up on Allison's aunt's resort in the Bahamas. Things get a little spicy when they get there, but it takes a lot of time to get to that point, because Zane has a hard time getting past his promise to Sean. A hurricane gives them the perfect opportunity to get close.

There's a lot of tension between the two as Zane needs to work through his promise to his friend and Allison has a secret about her job that she knows will anger Zane.

The story read like an episode of your favorite soap opera. (Well if there were many of those to watch these days)

If you are looking for a great quick read, this is definitely it.

Review:Karen Booth's Eden Empire series has a lot of wow factors in it. It is definitely a series romance lovers will want to read.

A Christmas Rendezvous is a perfect holiday novel that could easily become a Hallmark Channel movie(oops they have their own publishing company now)

Isabel is a high powered attorney who has fixed things for some people that probably didn't need fixing.

Jeremy is her opposing attorney, working a case against the Edens.

I gave this book 4 flowers but for me it may really be 3.5.

The story is great and I love how the Karen keeps the store and the Eden family's drama unfolding with each book, as we get closer to all the sisters and lovers.

So why 3.5 or 4

Let's do a pros and cons.

Pros
Jeremy is over 40. Can I get a woo hoo on this. Though he is plagued by the horrible betrayal of his first wife.
Kittens. (I'm a sucker for stories with animals) Isabel is a strong woman and good at her job and a fighter.
The meet cute care of the fire alarm at Isabel's hotel was precious.
I loved that Christmas was the season the book was set in, but it wasn't a total focal point of the story.


Cons 
There is one big one for me and that was Isabel moving into Jeremy's house when the hotel had to close because of the fire alarm system failure. She's a heavy hitting attorney. Truth be told the relationship between the two of them is a little..ok maybe more than a little bit unethical, especially with the type of case this was and for me that detracted from the story, because really outside of their first romantic involvement, they shouldn't have gone to the next level and I don't think any good attorney would have conducted a relationship like this while still being involved with the case.

So while I loved the characters, the way their relationship played out bugged me, because for the most part they kept their sleeping together a secret. (Though Mindy knew about the first fling)

Its still a good solid story and one I enjoyed.

Review:  I always hope the first read of the year signals how all my reads will be, however with Second Chance With the Billionaire, I don't want to have that hope.

I've had this book on my TBR for quite awhile and I wanted a quick read to clear my head. I've been having a rough time getting into books for the last few months.

I have mixed feelings for second chance novels because they always seem to have one character pining forever for the other and not living their lives in a natural fashion.

That wasn't the case so much here, though Conor did almost fall into that description. It was a good thing that he was really a stand up guy that made you forget that Ellie had dumped him because of his love for adventurous sport. He also doesn't carry the baggage in this relationship, that's for Ellie.

The sparks are definitely there between these two, but its a slow burn, because Conor has a conscience and a good one. I can understand his not wanting something physical to start with Ellie because she hasn't had a chance to properly grieve her husband, having taken on the care of her twin brother, who was seriously injured in the same accident that killed her husband and becoming a mother.

Now if only I didn't have the doubts from early on that Ellie's marriage wasn't a good one, or that it was about to end when the accident occurred.

That's another second chance pet peeve of mine. No character is ever allowed to have two good loves in their life.

This less than 200 page book took me much longer to read than necessary and left me with a so so feeling. Yes, there was great heat between Conor and Ellie, but the relationship was too lackluster for me to get excited about.

Review:  Charlene Sands is one of my favorite writer's for the Desire line and though I haven't been reading much romance lately, I absolutely had to read this one.

I'm a bit on the fence about my feelings for this one.  That's not to say I didn't enjoy the book, because I did, very much, but I had some issues with Lauren.

Lauren was portrayed as a former boy crazy young woman, who has suddenly decided to settle down after only dating her groom to be for only 6 months. This groom to be is also her late brother's business partner. No chemistry can be found between the two of them at all. I felt that Roger should have at least pretended to like/love her if they were going to be married.

But then there's Cooper. Ah Cooper. He was the best thing about the book. I adored him. He was not your typical Harlequin hero. There wasn't a trace of alpha male to be found here. In fact, he was really just sweet. Any guy that would help his bff's mother to put a stop to her daughter's wedding, is just a sweetie, and he does it with good intentions. He's not overbearing or controlling. He's just the kind of caring guy you want in your life. He is definitely book boyfriend material.

Lauren's mom  is all kinds of awesome too. I love a mom that is motherly and not some evil or just bad mom type character. I like good mother/daughter relationships and this was definitely here, even though mom wasn't quite as trusting as she could have been.

I felt that part of the ending was wrapped up a little to neatly. I understand that Ms. Sands wanted a little bit of suspense at the end, but Lauren's change in behavior didn't seem to work well with her previous actions.

I did love the big reveal about Roger at the end. That was actually pretty perfect and it made me feel like Lauren finally grew a spine.

If you are looking for a quick, sweet read for a lazy afternoon.

Review: I read Teri Wilson's "His Ballerina Bride" last year, and I loved it.  Getting to know more about the dance profession more is really what drew me to this book, plus JoAnne Rock is one of my favorite Desire authors.

This was a case of the fake fiance, which is a rather common plot, but one that really worked well in this story. Sofia's father wants her to get married, and Quinn's brother somehow picked her on an matchmaking site.

That's when things get going. Quinn (who is Cam's brother) offers to help her out of the mess by acting as her fiance until after her audition.

What makes their fake relationship so wonderful, is how it isn't fake. These two have such fabulous chemistry and they develop a friendship very quickly and though they don't seem to have much in common, these two really work well together.

When the fake relationship becomes real, you really root for them. They are one couple that really work together. I find a lot of romance relationships don't seem to show any common ground between the hero and heroine, but that really isn't the case.

Quinn respects Sofia's career and they show care about each other's personal lives. When an illness befalls a member of Quinn's family, Sofia shows support and Quinn goes to her. (I don't like to give away too much, but this really impressed me with the book)

This was one of the best Desire novels that I've read in a long time. Great characters and a great story. I can't wait for the next book!

Review:  Reunited with the Rancher is really a sweet story. The story is truly heartbreaking. Tom and Emily lost their son in an accident and things never were right for them since. They are married but living separate lives. (suddenly I hear Phil Collins)

Maverick, an anonymous blackmailer gets to Emily. Trying to convince her that Tom has a secret family stashed away.

This isn't as hot and spicy as most Desires are. In fact, it was very tame, focusing on trying to get two people that are very obviously still very much in love back together.

I went through most of the book wondering why Tom and Emily hadn't tried counseling after their child's death. Both of them obviously had a lot to work through, Tom especially. He has a lot of issues he needs to deal with.

Emily has issues too, but I couldn't help but wonder why she didn't fight for her marriage. She wanted a family and she certainly loved Tom.

I've read another book in this series and Maverick was a little more a part of the plot and I think that's why this book lacked the excitement of  the other books in the series.

This is a lovely story, but if you are looking for the normal Harlequin Desire fare, you aren't going to find it here.

Review: Maureen Child never fails to impress me, even when the plot is very far fetched. Secret babies are my least favorite plot that Harlequin uses but for some reason Maureen makes this work. I think it has to do with the fact that this book focused heavily on Wes and Belle and Caro and their relationship rather than on Wes and Belle having lots of sex. In fact, there really wasn't much sex in this story at all, which is amazing considering this is the Desire line.

There are some things that didn't make sense to me in the modern world, like how Belle got a job and took pay using a phony name. I-9 forms make this a little difficult unless she had fake id made.

I guess that's me overthinking things though, which I'm prone to do.

As to the keeping the baby secret, I was glad that Belle was from a wealthy family to start with because that eliminated the "rich guy using his wealth to force the mother's hand" device that you see in books with this plot.

Belle and Wes were on equal footing. I could understand why Belle didn't tell Wes about her pregnancy. If you were dating someone and they made it pretty clear they weren't in it for the long haul, it would be pretty hard to give out that news, when you could just up and fade into the background.

I liked how Wes owned up to his fatherhood, though I would have liked to have him give the guy from the other toy company, what for, for not letting him give an explanation about the child  he didn't know about.

Speaking of the child. Caro is an adorable little girl. Maureen Child writes great children. Caro is losing her hearing from a bad infection she got as a toddler. I liked how Wes was quick to see what he could do to help his daughter and her condition, as well as the fact that there was no sadness or pity for the child.

This book is part of a new mini-series and the villain aka Maverick is going to play a part in all the stories. I am looking forward to reading the upcoming books to find out who "Maverick" is.

Review: If you read one Christmas romance this year, this is the one you absolutely have to read.

Maureen Child, Hallmark Channel is calling, this book has to be made into a Christmas movie. It absolutely has to!!

I'm not sure how this book ended up in the Desire line, because the heat level is low, but to be perfectly honest, I don't think I would have loved it as much as I did. Joy's daughter Holly is really the star of the show. She's absolutely precious and its really her, that draws Sam out of his cranky anti-social shell that he imposed on himself when tragedy struck him several years prior.

Holly's love of puppies and fairies and her absolutely sweet nature chip away at his shell, which in turn opens his heart to Joy, who is falling hard for him. When they build a fairy house...well, my heart just filled to bursting.

How can you not fall in love with this brooding hero?

There's no arrogance in this man, just a man that's hurting, a lot.

This book gave me faith in romances again, but that's to be expected, because Maureen Child tends to write the best Harlequins. This one is staying on my shelf.

Review:  The Black Sheep's Secret Child reads like a soap opera. Secret father's, the heroine who was married to one brother while being married to another, a controlling grandfather, embezzling, the music industry and the tv industry, oh and don't forget the super rich.

There's nothing "real life" about this story, its pure fantasy, but it is quite as story. Savannah and her ex, Trent get it on fairly early on in the story, when she's trying to convince him to help her.

I could't really figure out how a reasonably intelligent woman would not tell the father of her baby that well, he was the father of her baby and at the same time think that it would be perfectly fine to enlist his help to save the family business that her son is a shareholder in.

It is the stuff of soap operas.

Savannah and Trent have great chemistry and a past history. It is hard to believe that Savannah ended up with his brother or why she'd even want to marry his brother. For a woman that was really strong in regards to some things, others made her seem really weak.

Again, this is the stuff of soap operas.

This was a quick enjoyable read, especially if you are the type that relishes watching shows like General Hospital and The Young and the Restless.

This is the last book in the Bayou Billionaires mini-series, and I have to say, I'm going to miss the Reynaud brothers and their football franchise.  I have read every book in this mini series and they are all very enjoyable read.

This is another book with a baby before the wedding, much like the first book in the series, His Pregnant Princess Bride, only  this time Jean-Pierre. They had a fling and it resulted in a baby. I like how Joanne has made both hero and heroine admirable characters that work together well and have great chemistry. They also have a shared past together, which makes the night that resulted in the baby more than just a one night stand.

I think if the NFL had more players like the Reynaud's I might watch more football. 

It is also wonderful to see the characters from the past books again. It is a nice way to wrap things up as we get to deal with Gervais and Erika's wedding in this story. I really am going to miss these characters. I wish there would have been more time spent with them in this book.  That was probably the one thing that was a bit of a let down for me in this book, because I really felt like I knew this family.

I definitely recommend this one and the other for fans of sports romance.

Review: I've read several Harlequins that have weightier subject matter lately. This is definitely one of those books.

A mix
up at a fertility clinic causes two unlikely people to have a baby, especially since they don't know one another.

I liked  Claire and Luca, both characters were the type that you could feel for her. Imagine if a man you don't is the father of your child and wants custody.

It bothered me that it took so long for the author to clue us in on why Luca had used a fertility clinic. When that was revealed, I let out a groan, because I knew what was going to happen. There were no ifs ands or buts about what was going to happen. I'd say what they issue was, but it would be a huge spoiler.

All that aside, I liked the romance between the two. Luca was definitely father material and he deserved to be part of Eva's life. Claire definitely deserved a better relationship than the one she had with her husband, so these two really worked well together. They were both broken individuals, but were strong too.

I especially loved Luca's family and how devoted they were to him and his happiness. If the issue with his health would have been done more realistically this would have been a fantastic book.

First of all, let me say that I love the Bayou Billionaires. I've read the first two books and loved each. They are sexy and fun. Of course, I have read other books by authors of these books, so I knew that these were going to be great.

Now, I have to comment on the hot guy on the cover. Ooo La La, but I think Harlequin has never ever ever watched football. This guy is not a football player, at least not American football. Though I could see him playing soccer, move over Beckham.

I liked that this installment is about fixing up a broken relationship. Part of the reason for this is of a more serious nature. Fiona has the breast cancer/ovarian cancer gene and she opts for surgery to prevent getting the cancer that killed her mom and grandmother, as well as her aunt. She's a frustrating heroine though. Seriously, I could have smacked her a few times, or given her a good shake, especially since she had such a great husband.

Of course, in some ways her actions can be justified. She's scared. She doesn't want Henri hurting if she gets sick. However I can't figure out how she can continually push him away when he wants to be with her, to help her. It was pretty obvious his actions were from love and not pity.

Harlequin is known for its alpha males, and once again I was pleasantly surprised to find a hero that wasn't alpha. Henri was pretty close to perfect. Anyone would want to be married to him.

You will see the ladies from the other books too, I love Erika and Adelaide. The really played a great role in this story, being supportive of Fiona

As an aside I would love to see this topic tackled in a romance where the characters weren't wealthy.
