This week's Top Ten topic: Top Ten Character's I'd Like to Be Best Friends With


1. Rhiannon from Planning to Live by Heather Wardell. I just finished this one, and I adored Rhiannon. She was such a wonderful friend. I would have loved to have known her.

2 and 3. Stephanie Plum and Lola from the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. I would hope my car never got blown up while we were hanging out, but I think these two would be great fun to know. I wouldn't mind hanging about Morelli and Ranger with them as well.

4. Moist Von Lipwig from Going Postal by Terry Pratchett. I loved this character and all the trouble he got into. I think he'd be quite fun to have as a BFF, as long as we didn't end up arrested!

5. Firestar from The Warriors series by Erin Hunter. I want a feline BFF too, and Firestar is a lovely, loyal kitty!

6. All the ladies from Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral by Kris Radish. I couldn't pick just one of these characters, because I just loved the special bond they had. I wanted friends like this when I read this book. They were fantastic women!

7.  Leah from Leah's Choice: Pleasant Valley Book One by Marta Perry. I can have Amish friends right? She was so wonderful with all the children and later with Rachel in Rachel's Garden.

8. Lady Julia from the The Lady Grey Mysteries by Deanna Raybourn. Julia is so spunky and just totally an interesting character. I love that she thinks for herself and doesn't let her husband control her life, even though sometimes its for her best interest.

9. Holly from Holly's Inbox: Scandal in the City. Ah she was so fun and screwed up! I think she would be a hoot to have as a BFF! Plus it would be fun to sort out all her crazy problems

10.  Coraline from Coraline  I loved this character so much. Plus I think I'd enjoy fighting the "other mother" with her!

Top Ten Holiday Books

Debbie Macomber's Mrs Miracle: Debbie writes the best holiday stories, but this one is truly a favorite of mine. Watch out for the movie version on Hallmark in the coming weeks. There's going to be a sequel film airing on the 27th too.

David Baldacci's The Christmas Train was one of the best stories I've read for the holidays, a little humor

and some mystery thrown in to make it really interesting.

Richard Paul Evans' Finding Noel: OMG this is a tear jerker, but a beautiful one. Actually any of Richard's books can make this list.

Thomas Kinkade's Cape Light books are the highlight of any Christmas. I used to share these with my grandma before she passed. These are wonderful stories of families and Christmas spirit.

Greg Kincaid - A Dog Named Christmas: I adored this book, it was absolutely heartwarming and touching. The movie was sweet too. Definitely a must read for the holiday.

Max Lucado - The Christmas Candle: This was a short beautiful read, that I could revisit again and again.

No Christmas is complete without THE GRINCH! This story and special are timeless. Christmas would not be Christmas without The Grinch!

No matter what version it is, A Christmas Carol makes the holiday complete. Though I have to admit, I like Catherine Tate's Nan's Christmas Carol, from the BBC last year. It was an interesting spin on this story!!

Vannetta Chapman - A Simple Amish Christmas: I read a galley of this earlier this year, and I have to say, I'll be buying a copy, because this story was so wonderful. You really got the feel of the Amish way of life, and how they celebrated Christmas.

Lori Wilde - The First Love Cookie Club: This was another fabulous read. It is a sweet romance that doesn't forget the meaning of the season.

Top Ten Books for Halloween

1. The Phantom Of The Opera:  This is a really great gothic horror romance. Not quite as scary as Dracula, but still a great Halloween read. Plus Erik (The Phantom) is one of my favorite characters of all time.


2. Dracula: This is "the" vampire book. All other vampires pale beneath him...or sparkle...and can I just say again, VAMPIRES DON'T SPARKLE!!!!!!

3. It: As if clowns weren't scary enough, Stephen King makes them more terrifying. Actually any classic Stephen King novel will do here.

4. R.L. Stine's Fear Street Series:  A Tween Series yes, but still quite scary.

5. John Saul - Suffer The Children:  No joke, this one gave me nightmares!

6. My Sweet Audrina: V.C. Andrews written by V.C. Andrews = creepy. Anything ghost written is horrid and a discredit to her wacky writing.

7.  Clive Barker - The Damnation Game: This was one of the first horror novels I read back between high school and college. Clive writes some pretty scary stuff.

8. Coraline: Its kids creepy care of Neil Gaiman...The Graveyard Book is another good kid's story.

9. Heck: Where The Bad Kids Go: Not really scary..but it is about the many circles of Heck!

10. Interview With The Vampire: Best vampire fiction aside from Dracula!! No sparkles!!!

Top Ten Fictional Crushes

1.  Erik from The Phantom of the Opera  I was never a fan of Raoul in the musical or the book. I always wanted Christine to realize she loved Erik.

2. Ron Weasley from Harry Potter. What can I say? I'm a sucker for red heads!

3. Joe Morelli and Ranger from Stephanie Plum: Seriously! These guys are sexy...and from what I've seen with the casting...the screen versions will be sexy as well.

4. Nicholas Brisbane  from The Lady Grey Mysteries: There's something really sexy about Lady Julia's husband. Maybe it's his gypsy blood, and maybe its because he's an investigator.

5. Roux from Chocolat: another faboulous gypsy. I wonder if I would have pictured him as Johnny Depp had I not seen the film before reading the book.

6.  Dick Driver from Tender Is the Night: I remember adoring this character when I read the book in high school

7. Will Lightman from About a Boy: Hugh Grant was perfect casting for this part. No joke. He was exactly how I pictured Will.

8. Moist Von Lipwig  from Going Postal  and Making Money : I love this character and the when they cast Richard Coyle in the part...my life was complete. I went from crushing on this character to falling hopelessly in love with this character.

9. Ethan from The Haunting: How can you not love a sexy civil war ghost?

10. Luke  from Her Sexy Valentine: I loved the hero in Stephanie Bond's Valentine's Day Blaze. I would've run off with him myself if I could have

Top 10 Books I'll Never Read


1. Any book written by or about Sarah Palin: the woman scares me enough in the news, I don't want to waste any more time on her.

2. Anything written by Nicholas Sparks. There's a lot to cry about in the world, I don't need one of his books to add to it.

3.  Any diet books. They don't help and they only give meal plans that single people can use.

4.  Moby Dick, I didn't read it in high school when I was supposed  to, I'm not going to read it now.

5. Any nonsense written by L. Ron Hubbard

6. Any other plays by Shakespeare that I didn't read in high school. Plays are meant to be watched not read.

7. Any memoir where a now wealthy person is whining about how bad they once had it.

8. Political memoirs/autobiographies etc...I've decided that I won't just single out Palin..I don't want to read about any of these crooks and wingnuts, and I don't care which party they belong to either.

9.  Most likely anything that falls into the Thriller or Horror category. I like to sleep after I read.

10. Stephanie Meyer's The Host. I know I will probably finish reading the Twilight Saga, much to my chagrin, but there's no way I'm reading any more of her stuff.

The Top Ten Books I Can't Believe I've Never Read

1.Charlotte Bronte - Villette: I barely got through Jane Eyre in high school. I've always felt that most literature should be read when you are an adult or when you want to. Forced reading never brings about any enjoyment.

2. J. K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7): Don't ask, but I've read this series in a haphazard fashion. I think I need to read one or two others. Bad me.

3. Hunger Games Trilogy: Apparently I'm the only one in the universe not to read these books.

4. Northanger Abbey: I haven't read most of Austen's work. Its part of my Classics reading challenge.

5. Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood : Yeah, I own all of them, and they are all on my TBR pile. GAH!

6. George Harrison - I, Me, Mine: George is my favorite Beatle and yet I've never read his book. Bad Bad Bad Bad me.

7. Barry Miles - Paul McCartney: Many Years From Now Again, how did I miss this book?

8. Mary Shelley - Frankenstein

9. Stephanie Meyer - Eclipse and Breaking Dawn: I just can't do it to myself. The first two books were so painful to me, however I do want to finish this series.

10. Victor Hugo - Les Misérables (Signet Classics) One day I will be brave and I will read the whole book..80 bazillion pages and all!
