TO RECOVER A PRICELESS MANUSCRIPT . . .
A wealthy widow has asked Sarah Winston to sell her massive collection of mysteries through her garage sale business. While sorting through piles of books stashed in the woman's attic, Sarah is amazed to discover a case of lost Hemingway stories, stolen from a train in Paris back in 1922. How did they end up in Belle Winthrop Granville's attic in Ellington, Massachusetts, almost one hundred years later?
WILL SARAH HAVE TO PAY WITH HER LIFE?
Before Sarah can get any answers, Belle is assaulted, the case is stolen, a maid is killed, and Sarah herself is dodging bullets. And when rumors spread that Belle has a limited edition of The Sun Also Rises in her house, Sarah is soon mixed up with a mobster, the fanatical League of Literary Treasure Hunters, and a hard-to-read rare book dealer. With someone willing to kill for the Hemingway, Sarah has to race to catch the culprit—or the bell may toll for her . . .

Review: The Gun Also Rises is the first book by Sherry Harris that I've read and I'm glad I did. It was very easy to slip into Sarah Winston's world. I absolutely love Sarah. She's kind and smart and wonderful.

I love how books and especially Hemingway play a huge part in the book. It is great angle for any book but a fabulous one for a mystery. I especially loved that because after reading The Paris Wife several years back, I became very interested in Hemingway's life.

I enjoyed meeting the regular cast of characters that fans of the series will already know. I especially loved the new characters we meet in this book. Miss Belle was a true southern lady really sweet. Her late husband's family made things very interesting too.

Sarah is bit different from the cozy heroines I'm used to. She investigated but not necessarily in a way that put her life in danger. Even better is the fact that the police are competent. Sarah also keeps close ties with the military families she was close with when married to CJ and how she still worked to help vets and their families.

For me it was how Belle's household/family really ties in with the murder and the mystery of the Hemingway stories and book. That's all I'll say, because I don't want to spoil this wonderful book.

This was a great page turner for me. I can't wait to read more of this series

1873 –

Adam Gentry, heir to the celebrated Paradise Stables in Virginia, is haunted by the visions of his lost love. Feeling cursed by fate, he slips deeper into grief, shrouded in a cloud of liquor and depression, and neglects his duties and responsibilities. But when Adam is forced to accept that there’s nothing he can do to change his past, he knows he must move on.

And he accepts his own destiny: that he will never love again.

Emmaline Somerset finds herself in the worst possible position any unmarried woman can be in. She will have to abandon all of her plans, hopes, and dreams for an independence using her own talents. The only viable solution is to move to a distant relative’s home and reinvent herself as a widow with an infant. No one will ever be the wiser.

Adam, now determined to secure the Gentry legacy, plans to save longtime family friend Emmaline from her embarrassment with an offer of marriage. But what Adam didn’t plan on was how his unexpected attraction to her would stir something inside of him, something he's kept locked deep within.

Can love finds its way between two troubled souls, one driven by duty, the other by honor, both determined to find their way home?

Read an Excerpt:

Emmaline Somerset’s bedroom door opened, and her mother poked her head inside.

“Mother, please,” she began but stopped speaking as the door opened wide and Adam Gentry walked into her room.

“I know this is unusual, Mrs. Somerset, but certainly you’ve known me and my family long enough to know that I intend nothing untoward. But I would like to speak to your daughter alone.”

Adam stared at her as he spoke to her mother and she could see Jane and Betsy behind him, eyes wide and their hands over their mouths.

“It’s not p-proper, Adam,” her mother stuttered.

“I’m fine, Mother. Stand outside my door if you wish.”

Emmaline looked at him and noticed that he was thinner than the last time she saw him. He was still very handsome and even intimidating, filling the room with his presence. He was the oldest among her generation of Gentrys and Somersets but had been removed a bit from the rest of them as they grew up together. A bit apart from John and Matthew and Jim, who’d been fast friends growing up, and from Olivia and Nettie and Marabelle Winston, whose family owned the mercantile, and her. He hadn’t been aloof, but he hadn’t gotten into the same type of trouble that John and Matthew had.

Women swooned over him, and he smiled back and tipped his hat in such a way that made a female feel as if she was the only person of her sex in the world. Except right now he wasn’t looking so sure of himself and not particularly happy, either.

Although it wasn’t dark yet, Althea had already lit large candles inside lanterns that were placed around the edge of the infinity pool and on a few adjacent tables. Lucy stood near the low wall and gazed out at the vast sea. She would never get tired of this view. Whether it was sunrise or sunset, it was always spectacular. Tonight was no exception. The sun was just beginning to set, and the sky was ablaze with red at the horizon, shifting to orange above. The previously light blue sky was becoming a deeper blue. In the background, the Grateful Dead sang about standing on the moon, looking down at the earth. And that’s what it felt like. She smiled when the singer described one of the colors of the American flag as indigo. And there it was yet again, their connection to indigo blue. It was another tiny reference to the thread that connected her to Justin, but its meaning resonated with her. The name of his band, the shared color of their eyes, and the hue of the stone she had spent years studying.
There were a few clouds at the horizon, and Lucy gasped when light from the sun broke through the clouds in long beams of light. Where was Justin? He should be with her to watch this incredible sunset.
The Grateful Dead song ended and it was quiet for a few moments. Then the opening notes of the vocal standard, “The Very Thought of You” filled the air. Instead of the Billie Holiday version she was familiar with, she heard Elvis Costello crooning.
The sound of footsteps approaching made her smile, and a strong pair of arms slipped around her waist. She leaned her head back into Justin’s chest.
You’re stunning,” Justin whispered into her ear as he placed soft kisses along the side of her neck. “Althea was just leaving when I came looking for you.” He took the wine glass from her hand and took a sip before setting it down.
Hmm,” Lucy sighed, as the sunset became even more dramatic.
What are you thinking, my love?”
I was thinking how much I love being here. It’s unimaginably beautiful and special. We just arrived, and I never want to leave.”
Turn around,” Justin said in a deep voice.
Lucy turned slowly in his arms.
Aren’t you handsome tonight?” She took him in, dragging her eyes from head to toe.
Just for you,” he said, his arms wide. He wore white linen trousers with a sky-blue, open-necked shirt. His skin glowed with a light tan from the afternoon by the pool, enhancing his indigo eyes. Justin held her gaze, and his expression became serious. “I feel the same about being here with you.” His voice was rough and full of emotion.

Lucy Bianchi has a plan: finish her PhD in art history and land a coveted job at a prestigious Los Angeles museum. Then—maybe—she’ll find time to start dating. Her controlled and predictable world begins to unravel when she chases a runaway dog on the beach and meets a gorgeous stranger.

Justin Hamilton is the charismatic lead singer of the British band Indigo. Years of touring and partying have won him notoriety, and he can have any woman he wants, but who he really wants doesn’t seem to exist.

Discovering You by Kate McBrien is a steamy read. The heat rises slowly in this novel but once the switch is flipped, it boils over with passion.” - Up All Night Book Blogs, Goodreads

You know you get one of those books that just builds and builds until you can’t put it down. This is one of those books.” – Love Reading, Goodreads review

This is a fascinating premise. Nerd meets rocker and finds an instant connection. I love soulmates and was fascinated to see how things turn out, especially with Lucy's art history background. The meet-cute was delightful and I enjoyed the growing relationship between the two of them, fast-paced as it was. Both Lucy and Justin are fully fleshed out characters with their own full lives.” - Lauren, Goodreads review

Waiting for You is a great followup to Discovering You. Justin and Lucy's story is exciting and passionate, and the mystical/fantasy/paranormal aspect just adds another interesting layer to their already wonderful connection.” Live Through Books Blog

Book two of the Indigo series is no less moving than the first one.  Kate amps up the romance and sex in this book over the first one. She also gives Lucy some backbone that was very troubling to me in book one…I personally can’t wait to see the finish of the story in the next book and like many of the character changes she shows in this one.” Wicked Cool Flight

Waiting for You” is like an explosion of events and emotions in the Indigo series. There are so many things going on and there is a twist there that I would have never predicted. I was addicted to Lucy and Justin’s relationship and I read every chapter looking forward for the next! … Kate McBrien has done such a wonderful job with “Waiting for You.” It has a lot of action, it has love and passion and so many other emotions. TLC Book Tours Books: Something Worth Saving

About Something Worth Saving

• Paperback: 304 Pages
• Publisher: Kensington (December 18, 2018)

Sandi Ward’s shrewdly observed, funny, and wonderfully touching novel tells of a fractured family, a teenage boy, and a remarkable cat whose loyalty knows no bounds . . . A boy and his cat. It’s an unconventional friendship, perhaps, but for Charlie and Lily, it works beautifully. It was Charlie who chose Lily from among all the cats in the shelter. He didn’t frown, the way other humans did, when he saw her injured back leg, the legacy of a cruel previous owner. Instead, Charlie insisted on rescuing her. Now Lily wants to do the same for Charlie. She’s the only one who’s seen the bruises on Charlie’s body. If she knew who was hurting him, she’d scratch their eyes out. But she can’t fix this by herself. Lily needs to get the rest of the family to focus on Charlie—not easy when they’re wrapped up in their own problems. Charlie’s mother kicked his father out weeks ago and has a new boyfriend who seems charming, but is still a stranger. Oldest son Kevin misses his father desperately. Victoria, Charlie’s sister, also has someone new in her life, and Lily is decidedly suspicious. Even Charlie’s father, who Lily loves dearly, is behaving strangely. Lily knows what it’s like to feel helpless. But she also knows that you don’t always have to be the biggest or the strongest to fight fiercely for the ones you love . . .

Review: I am an absolute sucker for animal stories and this one is told from the point of view of the cat.

There's so much I want to say about this book, but really "I loved it" sums it up perfectly.

I adored Lily and her perspective on a family in the midst of upheaval in so many ways. I wasn't an easy read for me, because Lily reminded me of my sweet sweet Dewey who passed away in 2017.

Sandi wrote Lily so well. I loved hearing an animal story told from the animals point of view, that wasn't a book totally about animals, like the middle grade Warrior cats series.

I recommend reading this with a box of tissues close at hand. Sit back and enjoy because this is truly one of the most beautiful reads you'll experience!

Goddess Fish Promotions Book Blast: Tailwinds Past Florence

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Doug Walsh will be awarding a $25 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

After getting blacklisted from the venture capital industry, twenty-nine-year-old Edward Vaughan will do anything to avoid telling his wife what happened. Even if it means agreeing to her dream of bicycling around the world. Kara, tired of being married to a workaholic, was readying for a divorce. Now, she’s packing bags of a different kind. Together, they pedal away from Seattle, headed east on the open road across America, Europe, and beyond.

Theirs is a decision that reverberates across centuries, shattering a continuum that bound their souls throughout time, and traps Edward in a battle with a past life over an eternal love.

As the miles roll by, and the couple's sordid secrets begin to surface, the couple encounters several men plucked from history, each one a vessel of Edward’s soul in a prior life. Of them, a 19th century art dealer proves dangerous, believing Kara is his ticket back to the past.

Tailwinds Past Florence is a contemporary love story with a magical twist, landing readers in the saddle of a global bicycle adventure.

Read an Excerpt:

With no kids on the horizon or in-laws willing to travel all that way, the second bedroom had become a land of forgotten hobbies. Dust-covered mountain bikes leaned where a dresser may have stood, a paint-splattered drop cloth took the place of a guest bed, an empty easel in lieu of a mirror.

As he rose from picking up the shoe, an unexpected absence caught his eye. The map was gone. For months it had hung opposite the door, above a bookcase lined with old college texts and a copious collection of brushes and paint tubes. Now, in its stead, only thumbtack holes in the same not-quite-white (Kara called it Saffron Lace) that covered every wall in their Seattle apartment.

She brought the map home last fall, a laminated Rand-McNally depicting every country on earth in shaded relief. Accompanying it was a proposal to bicycle around the world. She wanted him to take a sabbatical—a laughable notion in the world of venture capital—and spend a year or three traveling.

Issues of Adventure Cyclist appeared in the bathroom soon after, borrowed travel guides rotated across her nightstand, and seemingly every conversation held an air of wanderlust, with Kara pining for small towns and country roads, campfire beers at sunset. Just the two of us, she’d say in a coquettish whisper. While we’re still young. Edward could only guess what spurred her restlessness and expected it to vanish as abruptly as it emerged.

The map hadn’t gone far. A quick search found it crunched into a football of discarded fantasy, punted behind a pile of bags and boxes. By the looks of things, she’d cleaned out the closet.

He unfurled the map, exposing a runaway squiggle of black ink. His eyes locked on the map’s northwest corner, where a star marked the departure point. Home. From there, the line dipped and danced across the northern United States and Canada before dashing south from London to Spain. Onward it went, around the Mediterranean to Greece, Turkey, and beyond. Edward followed the trail, past a who’s who of countries he knew nothing about, to China and Vietnam and a hand-drawn smiley face clear on the other edge of the poster, in Bali.

She’d given up on it. No. She gave up on me.

In WICKED WHISKEY LOVE...
After escaping abusive parents and, later, an abusive relationship, Sarah Beckley has spent a lifetime watching snakes shed their skin. With two small children to care for and another on the way, she's finally found a home in Peaceful Harbor with the brother she hasn't seen in more than a decade. She's still searching for her sister, but life is good. If only she could stop thinking about the sinfully sexy doctor/biker who has taken to her children like a loving uncle--and to her like a hungry man.

Trust doesn't come easily for Sarah, but Bones Whiskey is patient and protective, amazing with her children, and he looks at her like she is the only woman he could ever want--and more. With two little ones underfoot, Sarah expects him to move on quickly, yet with every tender kiss and each trying moment with the children, Bones surprises her. But will the fiercely loyal biker stick around when Sarah's worst secret is revealed, or will he shed his skin, too?

Psycho in Paradise (Paradise Series, Book 15)
by Deborah Brown

In the Florida Keys, you have to take the shady with the sunny. And Tarpon Cove has more than fifty shades of shady going on.

Shady No. 1: When Brad is caught with the dead body of his crazy ex-girlfriend—a body he swears was planted—the Westin family gathers to plan a strategy. That family now including Fab, Didier, and Creole by default.

Shady No. 2: Fab is having a hard time keeping her promise to go legit. It’s not her fault she tends to attract clients who want their problems solved without getting the cops involved. Trying to keep her reined in is a full-time job, and a thankless one, since Madison keeps getting roped in on “easy” jobs that wind up getting the kind of messy that require specialized cleanup.

Shady No. 3: Ferreting out the info needed to save Brad means using sources so deep in the friend-of-a-friend network they’re anonymous.

The only thing not shady is Creole’s love. Madison’s kept her promise never to lie to him. Mostly. But when the killer wafts like smoke through the cracks in the investigation, it reminds her she should’ve eaten dessert first more often.

The Paradise series, are Florida Keys mysteries, “great as stand-alone reads, but they're like chips...you won't be able to devour just one!”
