 Review: I can't believe this is the 9th book in the series. I've read just about all of them and I have to say, I've loved every one.

As I've said before, though you can read these books as standalone novels it is best to read this series in order so things make more sense. This series really is one continuous story.

In this book Hank and Imogen have a new house to renovate only its more than a little bit haunted and it also seems like there's someone or something that doesn't want them there. There's also a matter of an unsolved murder that ties in with the house.

In some books all the subplots and other goings on could make things complicated, but not here. I especially enjoyed the owners of the diner who happened to be original owners of the house Hank and Imogen are trying to renovate, emphasis on the word trying, as every time they do something, it is undone the next day and vandalized to boot.  Then there is the background on the house and its "haunting."

This was probably the best book in the series so far. It is definitely full of action and some nail biting moments for everyone.

I can't believe that there is only one more book to go in this series, because I've really become quite attached to these characters. They feel like family.

I can't wait to read the next book even if it means saying goodbye to old friends.

Review: The Spells and Caramels series is one of my favorite series. I have to admit, I missed the last book, do to the death of my mother and I really should have gone back to read that book before I dove into this one, because I was a little bit lost. This series is best enjoyed in order, and trust me you will enjoy this book and all the others.

This series is one best read in order because this series is really all about continuity, because though they are cozy in nature, there's a strong story line that is best enjoyed from the the start of the series, so that you understand the characters better.

In this book Imogen and her friends are stuck on Badlands Island. Imogen is looking for her brother Horace and early on we meet his second in command, Leo, who saves Imogen from drowning.

A diversion to a spa finds the group finding yet another dead body and there is a murder to solve.

I really love how the characters are growing as this series progresses. Oh and can I say, I just adore Iggy. Iggy is Imogen's flame. (literally). If you are a fan of the series, you'll see how each character has really come into their own in this story and you learn so much as the series goes on, especially about Imogen and Horace.

The mystery involves a spa owner who has a bit of reputation of being a black widow, and when she takes an interest in Yann, Imogen knows she has to investigate the death of a man that died in the spa, in case those rumors proved true.

There weren't a lot of suspects but it was really interesting to see how everything played out. I have to admit that once again I was surprised with who the culprit was.

What I love about this series is how its more than just the mystery. Its the character's lives and that's just as important as them solving a murder. So don't be surprised when the book goes on a little bit longer than when everything is solved.

The ending of this one will give you the warm fuzzies and have you squealing with delight.

This is a fabulous read and a great addition to the series!

 Review: I have been keeping up with the Spells and Caramels series from the start. These books are really getting better with each book. This series is one you have to read from book 1, because though there's not a cliffhanger ending, the next book picks up where the last leaves off. This series is totally about continuity.

This book starts in the Fire Kingdom as the wedding of Prince Hank and Shaday is approaching. Its kinda hard to think of that when Hank is Imogen's boyfriend. Her emotions screw up her baking and get her banned from the kitchen as a result. Poor Imogen.

She is also getting to know her brother Horace, who just happens to be one of the most wanted criminals all the while trying to find the killer of Shaday's friend's father. Shaday being the princess who happens to be marrying Hank.

So there's a lot going on in this book and Imogen is learning more and more about herself and even about her brother. There's less with Hank in this book because of the wedding preparations.

The ending is action packed and has a lot of "wow!" going on.

All of this makes for a fabulous read.

I can't wait to see what happens next to the crew.

As Imogen unearths more than a few town secrets, she finally solves the riddles of her past and discovers the truth of Horace’s pursuit of her. But will all the secrets be unraveled in time to stop the killer, or will Imogen and her friends suffer a monstrous fate?

  

Review: I've read all of the Spells and Caramels series. I'm not usually a paranormal/supernatural mystery gal, but this series is fabulous. It is one that you really get lost in.

Now unlike most cozy mysteries that I read, this particular series really should be read in order. It can be read as a stand alone, but the progression of events makes the reading much more enjoyable and this series is just that.  There are a lot of things that have happened before the start of this book that it can be a little difficult for a new to the series reader to get into, and the other books are so good that why wouldn't you want to read them in order?

I love the holiday theme. It really brings something special to this series.  Its kinda Christmasy, but the holiday in this land is called Bruma.

I adore Imogen and her relationship with Hank and all the other interesting characters.  Iggy, the flame is my absolute favorite of Imogen's friends. Iggy really cares deeply for his friend. I also enjoyed the little fling he had with another flame during the holiday party that started the ball rolling for the mystery.

The story progresses slowly as far as the mystery is concerned until the the first murder happens, but the prior events really set things up for what is going to happen. 

Imogen and her friends are stuck in Earth land while trying to make it to Hank's family for the holiday. They encounter Horace the leader of the Badlands Army along the way and they are rerouted to a small town that is not quite what it seems.

In the course of things one of the more annoying townspeople is murdered, and then another and it the evidence points to Francis, their vampire. As they start to sleuth, they learn more about Imogen's past, which really helps to keep the story going. The mystery isn't quite the most important part of this book, its the reveal.

I love Erin's writing. It is so easy to transport yourself into the story.
