TLC Book Tours Book Review: Rainy Day Friends

About Rainy Day Friends

• Paperback: 384 pages
• Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks (June 19, 2018)

Following the USA Today bestseller, Lost and Found Sisters, comes Rainy Day Friends, Jill Shalvis’ moving story of heart, loss, betrayal, and friendship.

Six months after Lanie Jacobs’ husband’s death, it’s hard to imagine anything could deepen her sense of pain and loss. But then Lanie discovers she isn’t the only one grieving his sudden passing. A serial adulterer, he left behind several other women who, like Lanie, each believe she was his legally wedded wife.

Rocked by the infidelity, Lanie is left to grapple with searing questions. How could she be so wrong about a man she thought she knew better than anyone? Will she ever be able to trust another person?  Can she even trust herself?

Desperate to make a fresh start, Lanie impulsively takes a job at the family-run Capriotti Winery. At first, she feels like an outsider among the boisterous Capriottis. With no real family of her own, she’s bewildered by how quickly they all take her under their wing and make her feel like she belongs. Especially Mark Capriotti, a gruffly handsome Air Force veteran turned deputy sheriff who manages to wind his way into Lanie’s cold, broken heart—along with the rest of the clan.

Everything is finally going well for her, but the arrival of River Green changes all that. The fresh-faced twenty-one-year old seems as sweet as they come…until her dark secrets come to light—secrets that could destroy the new life Lanie’s only just begun to build.

Review: I always think I've read more of Jill Shalvis' books than I have. I don't know why I've only read a few of her books, because most of them that I've read, I've enjoyed. They fall under the "feel good" category of reads.

This book had so many laugh out loud moments. Gosh I loved Alyssa and Mia and Mark's twins. Oh and the little anxiety tidbits at the start of each chapter were a hoot, mostly because I identified with almost all of them.

OK, I have to admit, I loved all the characters. That doesn't happen often for me, but with this book, everyone was great! I especially liked the twins Sam and Sierra, who were essentially cuteness overload. They could be a bit much for some readers, I'll admit, but for me, they were adorable.

Lanie was fabulous and so was River. I really couldn't find anything much to complain about here, except maybe Lanie's convoluted dearly departed husband, who had more wives than he had brains.

I couldn't understand Lanie's not telling people about what happened to her. Oh and anyone else feel like her mom was much like Mrs. Hoffstetter on Big Bang Theory? Though it was nice of her to become more sympathetic to her towards the end.

It was pretty easy to know who River was from the start, though what she was planning wasn't exactly what I was thinking when she was introduced.

The only thing that kept this from being a perfect read was the romance. I know, I know that's weird, but the romance felt incidental here and I expected more wives of Kyle's to turn up or even something that explained his polygamy, other than what we learned at the end.

This was fluffy fun summertime read that will make you fell warm and fuzzy after you finish it.

Book Blurb:  LOVE CAN HAPPEN IN A HEARTBEAT

Grace never thought she'd be starting her life over from scratch. Losing everything has landed her in Lucky Harbor, working as a dog walker for overwhelmed ER doctor Josh Scott. But the day his nanny fails to show up, Grace goes from caring for Josh's lovable mutt to caring for his rambunctious son. Soon Grace is playing house with the sexy single dad . . .

With so many people depending on him, Josh has no time for anything outside of his clinic and family-until Grace arrives in town. Now this brainy blonde is turning his life inside out and giving a whole new meaning to the phrase "good bedside manner." Josh and Grace don't know if what they have can last. But in a town like Lucky Harbor, a lifetime of love starts with just one day . . .

Review: Jill Shalvis is what good romance is all about. She writes stories like Debbie Macomber and Sherryl Woods with characters you really connect with. In this case its Amy, Mallory and Grace in the town of Lucky Habor.

But that's not all, there's each women's significant other as well as some pretty crazy people from the town particularly Lucille who runs an art gallery in town.

This story is about Grace and Josh. Josh is a super hot and highly overworked single father/doctor. He's juggling work, being a dad and new puppy owner as well as taking care of his sister who is wheel chair bound as a result of an car accident.

Yeah, he's got a lot on his plate and he needs a dog walker for Tag, his super hyper pug puppy. That's where Grace came in. Then she took over for the nanny that quit. Once you got into Josh's life, you really didn't want to get out of it, even if your like Grace, a woman looking to find some measure of success.

This story is kind of a been there done that one. Grace is in banking/finance but as the story goes on, everyone wants her to do their bookkeeping. So you kind of now what she's going to end up doing in town, just as you know to have a HEA she's got to stay in Lucky Habor.

So the story is very predictable, more so than most series romance, but it is a comfortable read. All of Shalvis' characters feel like family. It doesn't matter if this is the first Lucky Harbor book you've read or the 6th. (which this one is)

When you read the dialogue between Grace and Amy and Mallory, you feel like you are sitting around a coffee table with them.

This book really captured small town life as well as friendship. I will be putting Jill on my must read list from now on.
