~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt :

Um, there is a . . . gentleman . . . demandin’ to see the owner.” Susan twisted her hands together. Her starched white apron had come undone, its ties wrinkled as they drooped on either side of her ample hips. She audibly swallowed. “He’s wearin’ a double gun holster,” her voice lowered to a scandalized whisper, “and carryin’ the biggest rifle I ever saw. He asked for Old James. Miss Catherine, I don’t even know who Old James is.”

Catherine released a sigh tinged with reluctant humor. Probably another miner, coming into town after a typical stint holed up and pounding ore, who hadn’t yet heard of the changes wrought since she’d officially opened The Miner Stage House.

She laid a hand on Susan’s arm. “I’ll deal with this. Just check with the kitchen staff and see if Missus Loman delivered her pies. You know how our customers love their desserts.” She gestured toward her employee’s wayward apparel. “Tie your apron first, please.”

While Susan nodded in obvious relief and bolted for the hallway, Catherine followed at a slower pace, taking the stairs gracefully, calming breaths in and out as she always did before she began each shift of overseeing the main floor of the Stage House.

Her steps faltered when she came face to face with Frank Carter toward the bottom of the wide staircase, his deep gray eyes fastened on her as he clutched a dusty Stetson in one big, callused hand.

Dark, tousled hair curled around his ears, and his wide shoulders filled out his faded work shirt almost to the point of bursting the seams. The soft cotton did nothing to hide his rippling muscles, either.

She lifted a defiant chin. No man should be that handsome.

Review: The Dance Hall Wife is the second book in the Brides of Little Creede series. The characters are really complex. Cat is really a strong amazing woman.

Frank is the epitome of the alpha male. He's strong. He's possession. He's a little bit obnoxious at times, but oh is he sexy.

There's a lot of drama here and a wonderful slow burn of a romance. Cat and Frank have fabulous chemistry and its hard not to love these two.

This was an absolutely  amazing short western romance!

Historical Fiction Virtual Book Tours Book Review: Innocence Lost

Innocence Lost by Sherilyn Decter

Publication Date: February 21, 2019
eBook & Paperback; 339 Pages
Series: Bootleggers’ Chronicles Series, Book One
Genre: Historical Fiction/Crime/Women's Fiction
In a city of bootleggers and crime, one woman must rely on a long-dead lawman to hunt down justice… Philadelphia, 1924. Maggie Barnes doesn’t have much left. After the death of her husband, she finds herself all alone to care for her young son and look after their rundown house. As if that weren’t bad enough, Prohibition has turned her neighborhood into a bootlegger’s playground. To keep the shoddy roof over their heads, she has no choice but to take on boarders with questionable ties… When her son’s friend disappears, Maggie suspects the worst. And local politicians and police don’t seem to have any interest in an investigation. With a child’s life on the line, Maggie takes the case and risks angering the enemy living right under her nose… Maggie’s one advantage may be her new found friend: the ghost of a Victorian-era cop. With his help, can she find justice in a lawless city? Innocence Lost is the first novel in the Bootleggers’ Chronicles, a series of historical fiction tales. If you like headstrong heroines, Prohibition-era criminal underworlds, and just a touch of the paranormal, then you’ll love Sherilyn Decter’s gripping tale.

Available on Amazon

Review: Innocence Lost is a first book in a new Historical mystery series and if this book is any indication of what's to come, well the future is really bright.

The book is set in Philly during prohibition. Bootlegging is going full steam and Maggie is doing her best to keep body and soul together for her and her son.  Then her son's friend goes missing and no one seems to be doing much of anything to find the boy or what happened to him.

She gets help in her sleuthing from a very strange place, the ghost of a police man from the Victorian Era.

This is what made the book so different and so unputdownable. It really sets the book apart from most mysteries I've read set in this time period. Plus Maggie isn't the typical heroine from the period. She's strong and well....she's a mother and not a socialite.

This is an absolutely wonderful novel!

Review:  Before I even get into this review I have to give this book the cover love gushing that it deserves. The cover is just so freaking cute.

This is the first paranormal cozy I've read in a long time. Its short its sweet and for me it was really perfect.

This is a book you can devour easily in an afternoon and it will be worth it. I loved Cari and the town of Moss Hill.

This is a nice little change from the typical cozy that I'm used to.

An absolutely adorable read!

TLC Book Tours Book Review: 99 Percent Mine

About 99 Percent Mine

• Hardcover: 368 pages
• Publisher: William Morrow (January 29, 2019)

Readers and critics alike raved over USA Today bestselling author Sally Thorne’s smash hit debut, The Hating Game, which has sold in over 20 countries. Now she’s back with an unforgettable romantic comedy about a woman who finally has a shot at her long time crush—if she dares.

Crush (n.): a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach…

Darcy Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s travelled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with finding her dream man at age eight and peaking in her photography career at age twenty—ever since, she’s had to learn to settle for good enough.

When Darcy and Jamie inherit a tumble-down cottage from their grandmother, they’re left with strict instructions to bring it back to its former glory and sell the property. Darcy plans to be in an aisle seat halfway across the ocean as soon as the renovations start, but before she can cut and run, she finds a familiar face on her porch: house-flipper extraordinaire Tom’s arrived, he’s bearing power tools, and he’s single for the first time in almost a decade.

Suddenly Darcy’s considering sticking around to make sure her twin doesn’t ruin the cottage’s inherent magic with his penchant for grey and chrome. She’s definitely not staying because of her new business partner’s tight t-shirts, or that perfect face that's inspiring her to pick up her camera again. Soon sparks are flying—and it’s not the faulty wiring. It turns out one percent of Tom’s heart might not be enough for Darcy anymore. This time around, she’s switching things up. She’s going to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers.

This next hilarious romance includes a special PS section with two Happily Ever Afters—one for this novel featuring Darcy and Tom and the other, an epilogue featuring fan favorites Lucy Hutton and Josh Templeman from The Hating Game!

Review: There are some books that grab me from the get go. This book started out that way, only I had so many problems with Darcy and that really took away a lot of my enjoyment of this book, which was a good read overall.

In some ways I understand how Darcy became the brash, tough as nails type of girl that she is. I like that she's full of quirks and is not your typical romance novel heroine.

I'm fine with reading a book with a heroine that you don't like or any main character that you don't like, but its harder when romance is involved.

Darcy was just too much for me. Maybe I'm too old to enjoy her type of character, but she more often than not annoyed me, though I loved aspects of her, especially her relationship with Tom.

Tom I liked a whole lot more.  He was sweet and pretty much everything I'm looking for in a guy, just not with Darcy.

I think I may have to try The Hating Game to see if the hype around this author is really all that and a bag of chips, until then, I'm not really sure.

Goddess Fish Book Tours Book Review: Secret Lady

Secret Lady
by Beth Trissel

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: New Adult, Time Travel, Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

At Lavender House, Evie McIntyre is haunted by the whispers from her bedroom closet. Be-fore she can make sense of their murmurs, the house "warbles" between times and transports her to the Civil War. Past and present have blended, and Evie wishes she'd paid more attention to history. Especially since former Confederate officer, Jack Ramsey, could use a heads up.

Torn between opposing forces, Jack struggles to defend the valley and people he loves. Meet-ing Evie turns his already tumultuous world upside down. Will solving the mystery of the whispers return her home, and will the handsome scout be by her side?

Against the background of Sheridan's Burning of the Shenandoah Valley, Jack and Evie fight to save their friends and themselves – or is history carved in stone?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
What had happened to the room?
Nothing in the parlor was as it had been a short while ago. Furnishings suited to a monastery had
displaced the frou-frou d├ęcor. Simple wooden chairs, stools, and a plain couch were arranged in a circle. A small table supported a large black book, possibly the Bible. Discarded knitting lay on a side table. A spinning wheel sat in one corner.
There were no frills anywhere. No lavender sprigged wallpaper or lacy valentines, or anything she
remembered. Her grandmother’s cherished things were gone. Everything had changed, and yet, the layout of the room was the same.
Was she lost in a dream, or had she stepped into a parallel universe? That sometimes happened…in
Doctor Who, not her world.
Oh, my,” she gulped, and blindly reached out to steady herself against the back of a chair. “Not what I
was expecting.”
Nor are you.” The man called Jack returned the match tin to his pouch and studied her by the flickering light, his sandy brows arching under the broad brim.
Whew.” He thumbed his hat back. “You’re nothing like Hettie Wenger.”
Not in this life,” she said in a bare whisper, realization nagging at her.
Did you have another?”
She nodded, gazing into the most glorious greenish-brown eyes, like sun-dappled trees. Wham.
Lightning bolt impact.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Review: I love a good time travel romance. This one is Civil War Era and its simply amazing.

Evie is staying at Lavender House with her gran. The house has historical significance as it is the only house to survive the burning of the Shenandoah Valley by Sheridan's troops.

Evie is a tour guide at the house.

She's also a little afraid of her closet, where she hears strange "whispers". Its the closet that helps transport Evie back to the Civil War era where she meets Jack Ramsey a former Confederate soldier.

This book was absolutely amazing with a mixture of romance and mystery.  I really loved the historical aspects of this novel.

I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

Review:  If you have a few hours to kill and you need a read that will make every hour worth it, this is definitely the book to choose.

Its a quick read but its packed with all sorts of wonderful stuff. I mean the two main characters are jewel thieves It really can't get much better than that. Its like White Collar with sex and by sex I mean hot, smoking, you'll need a cold shower after you read this, sex.

The plot is pure fantasy, but what a fantasy it is. 1 sexy jewel thief and 1 19 year old virgin with her own agenda. Valentine is smart and sassy and fabulous and Dutch is a whole lot of alpha wonderfulness.

This book grabs you from the very first page and it won't let you go until you finish.

I can't wait to read more by Madison!

We Shall See the Sky Sparkling
by Susana Aikin

Publication Date: January 29, 2019
Kensington Publishing Corporation
Paperback & eBook; 416 Pages
Genre: Historical Fiction
Set in London and Russia at the turn of the century, Susana Aikin's debut introduces a vibrant young woman determined to defy convention and shape an extraordinary future. Like other well-bred young women in Edwardian England, Lily Throop is expected to think of little beyond marriage and motherhood. Passionate about the stage, Lily has very different ambitions. To her father's dismay, she secures an apprenticeship at London's famous Imperial Theatre. Soon, her talent and beauty bring coveted roles and devoted admirers. Yet to most of society, the line between actress and harlot is whisper-thin. With her reputation threatened by her mentor's vicious betrayal, Lily flees to St. Petersburg with an acting troupe--leaving her first love behind. Life in Russia is as exhilarating as it is difficult. The streets rumble with talk of revolution, and Lily is drawn into an affair with Sergei, a Count with fervent revolutionary ideals. Following Sergei when he is banished to Vladivostok, Lily struggles to find her role in an increasingly dangerous world. And as Russian tensions with Japan erupt into war, only fortitude and single-mindedness can steer her to freedom and safety at last. With its sweeping backdrop and evocative details, We Shall See the Sky Sparkling explores a fascinating period in history through the eyes of a strong-willed, singular heroine, in a moving story of love and resilience.

Praise

"Aikin’s novel is expertly plotted and rife with historical details in both its English and Russian settings, making for a rich story of the prejudices women faced at the turn of the 20th century and how the class disparity in Russia ignited the flame of revolution." - Publishers Weekly "Beginning and ending with letters written to her family, this novel has the feel of a serial drama. Readers of Pam Jenoff and Eva Stachniak will appreciate the strong-willed and artistically driven female character who finds her own way through difficult times." - Library Journal ". . . vivid and compelling - an exceptional woman on an extraordinary journey . . ." ~ Livi Michael, Author of War of the Roses Trilogy "Against the dramatic backdrops of a Russia on the brink of revolution and the colorful lives backstage of the London theatre circuit, Susana Aikin has created a feisty Edwardian protagonist whose trajectory still resonates with the predicament of women working in the arts today." ~ Sara Alexander, Under a Sardinian Sky and Four Hundred and Forty Steps to the Sea "We Shall See the Sky Sparkling kept me up at night until blurry eyed, cheering Lily on through all her wild adventures, until she becomes one of those rare heroines, a mature independent woman to admire." ~ Melissa Burch, Author of My Journey Through War and Peace "Susana Aikin's directorial eye is much in evidence in this sweeping saga. Her attention to period detail transports the reader on a filmic journey that is both astonishing and tragic. We Shall See the Sky Sparkling is a powerful meditation on the sacrifices women have made in pursuit of their dreams - sadly, as relevant in the early 21st century as a hundred years ago." ~ Helen Steadman, Best-selling Author of Widdershins and Sunwise "We Shall See the Sky Sparkling is a vivid, thoroughly absorbing account of one woman's struggle to break from the rigid roles her social class and time period. Drawing from her family's history and a series of fascinating letters, Aikin crafts a marvelous tale of adventure, rebellion, and romance, on a captivating journey from the theaters of Edwardian London to tumultuous St. Petersburg and beyond. Lily shines as a heroine of uncommon strength--her struggle to protect and foster her independence , even as she navigates through great loves and treacherous times, is to be relished and remembered." ~ Suzanne Nelson, Author of Serendipity Footsteps
