Review: The Spells and Caramels series is one of my favorite series. I have to admit, I missed the last book, do to the death of my mother and I really should have gone back to read that book before I dove into this one, because I was a little bit lost.

This series is one best read in order because this series is really all about continuity.

In this book Imogen and her friends are stuck on Badlands Island. Imogen is looking for her brother Horace and early on we meet his second in command, Leo, who saves Imogen

A diversion to a spa finds the group finding yet another dead body and there is a murder to solve.

I really love how the characters are growing as this series progresses. Oh and can I say, I just adore Iggy.

This is a fabulous read and a great addition to the series!

EXCERPT :
Six months ago, Bree had been a confirmed dog person—until she'd inherited a cat from her murdered boss. Now, she held a tiger by the tail. Or rather, by a leash. But when it came to tigers, the difference was just splitting hairs.
Bree scrambled, following the energetic cub over the dusty, rock-strewn flatlands of the Thailand Tiger Sanctuary. It tugged on the leash, intent on exploring. Sweat trickled down her back. Her foot caught on a rock and she stumbled when the wayward cub pulled her forward.
A strong male hand grabbed the leash and jerked the tiger back onto the path. Bree suppressed a shiver of awareness and turned to Matthew Tugood, both grateful for—and irritated by—his presence.
I can’t believe we’re doing this,” he grumbled. “Why are we here again?”
Bree resisted the temptation to roll her eyes. “You know my sorority is donating a rescued cub to the Terrance U animal clinic.”
He scowled at her. Or maybe the sun was in his eyes. “I cut through the red tape for the donation. Not your sorority. Not Terrance University. Not the exotic animal clinic. Me.”
She ignored him and focused on her tiger cub. Tugood slowed, widening the gap between them and the tour group. “Let me rephrase. Why are we spending the day in a tourist trap?”
I wanted to meet the cub’s trainer and get firsthand experience.”
Matthew answered with a grunt. His mouth firmed into a tight line as he scanned the horizon, squinting against the bright sunlight. “You’re wasting time you could spend preparing for your assignment.” His voice dropped low and he kept his eyes trained on the distance. After a slow pivot, he leaned close, his breath warm on her ear despite his harsh tone. “Or have you forgotten about your mission?”
Bree disentangled the leash from his hands. “I liked you better before I knew you were a spy.”
No, you liked my cover story.” His voice softened, and he glanced her way. “That’s not the same thing. And you do like me now. I happen to like you too.” Despite the ninety-degree heat, a shiver raced down Bree’s spine as if he’d touched her.
What I don’t like is that you never stop thinking about your mission. Not for a minute.”
Lower your voice. We don’t want to be overheard.”
Bree eyed the terrain, wondering if the clumps of scrub grass and rocks were cleverly disguised surveillance devices. She dismissed the idea. “Can’t you think about something besides the mission?”
May I remind you that my single-minded focus on the mission saved your life on more than one occasion?”
Bree dropped the argument. For one thing, his interference had saved her life when a murderer—make that two murderers—had wanted her out of the picture. On the other hand, she hadn’t found a single dead body before she met Matthew. So, in her mind, it was a toss-up.
I need you to focus on our mission.”
Fine. You’ve made yourself clear.” Bree shrugged. “Next topic.” Beside her, Matthew bristled and Bree took secret delight in being able to needle him the same way he constantly needled her.
Our target is convinced you’re a brilliant researcher with access to cutting-edge technology.”
Bree stopped in her tracks so fast, the tiger cub did a backflip at the end of his leash. She whirled on Matthew. “In case you’ve forgotten, I am a real researcher, complete with a PhD in science. Just because my cover story involves a fictional company doesn’t negate my real experience.” Behind her, the tiger cub let out a noise—between a growl and a whine—as if to support Bree’s statement.
Your science degree isn’t the only reason you’re an asset to the Sci-Spy organization.”
Another yowl accompanied by a tug on the leash made Bree turn back to her tiger cub and hurry to catch up with the group. Tugood kept pace, his voice low and insistent. “Like it or not, your days as a simple researcher ended when you signed on with Sci-Spy.”
Bree stopped at the edge of the tour group and turned to Matthew. “Please. I need a day to do something fun. Something…normal.”
Across the clearing, a tiger roared, shaking the ground under her feet. Soon she’d be photographed with the massive animal.
Bree held Matthew’s gaze. When he nodded in reluctant agreement, she turned to the group, but all thoughts of fun—and normal—had fled at Matthew’s mention of their target. Tomorrow, she’d confront a terrorist and try to uncover his network of associates.
Compared to that, even the quarter-ton tiger seemed docile.

Jane Galaxy

Tristan Eccleston.
One of her new coworkers.
He was a darling of… well, everything and everyone, it seemed like. Since he’d been cast as Morganna’s brother Lucius, Sophie had spent some time looking into him. Wunderkind of the British theater scene, only son of an acting dynasty that dated back centuries, he had a legendary charm that could infatuate even the iciest drama critic or interviewer. Not that he’d ever met anyone who didn’t like him, from the way articles absolutely gushed over him.
Sophie peered more closely at the tweet. Several pictures, all paired off, featured the actor in an expensive outfit on the left and increasingly fancy old cars on the right. Tristan in a red velvet smoking jacket over his bare chest, next to a glossy Jaguar from the 1960s. Tristan in profile looking moody, wearing blue pinstripes next to a Cadillac with huge fins. Obviously a commentary on the size of his nose. And finally, Tristan in a sleek black tuxedo from last year’s BAFTA awards, one strawberry blond curl springing out from his temple, next to…
Sophie zoomed in on the picture of the last car. A small photo credit at the bottom told her it was a 1938 Phantom Corsair. It looked like a giant bullet, or vibrator.
Who is this guy, and why does he have to be so embarrassing?
She flipped back to look at the editorial photo of him. Like this, for example. Who the hell wore Gucci and then faved photo posts by fans who made life-sized cardboard cutouts of him and posted pictures of themselves pretending to be asleep next to him for Instagram fame?
Sophie zoomed in on the V-shaped split where the velvet smoking jacket opened over the expanse of his chest. Comics Twitter claimed that his workout routine was mostly swimming—he hadn’t bulked up like so many of the Card One players who needed to fill out exoskeletons and spandex, but was focused on being lithe and hungry for power. The planes of his face and angle of the shot combined to make him look like he was gazing right at her, about to suggest that she remove her panties and come closer.
God, she kind of hated him.
Handsome, yes. Annoying and constantly mugging for attention, also yes.
They were going to cross paths on set, and it was going to take a lot of effort to not recall the infamous picture of Tristan on one knee pretending to propose to a girl giving an over-exaggerated look of shock and delight. Sophie tossed her phone to the head of the bed and found a robe to change into.
She could be polite, but ultimately distant. That was really all it required. She’d been raised with good manners.
Being polite and professional was no problem.

TLC Book Tours Book Review: The Gown

About The Gown

• Hardcover: 400 pages
• Publisher: William Morrow (December 31, 2018)

The Gown is marvelous and moving, a vivid portrait of female self-reliance in a world racked by the cost of war.”--Kate Quinn, New York Times bestselling author of The Alice Network

From the internationally bestselling author of Somewhere in France comes an enthralling historical novel about one of the most famous wedding dresses of the twentieth century—Queen Elizabeth’s wedding gown—and the fascinating women who made it.

“Millions will welcome this joyous event as a flash of color on the long road we have to travel.”

—Sir Winston Churchill on the news of Princess Elizabeth’s forthcoming wedding

London, 1947: Besieged by the harshest winter in living memory, burdened by onerous shortages and rationing, the people of postwar Britain are enduring lives of quiet desperation despite their nation’s recent victory. Among them are Ann Hughes and Miriam Dassin, embroiderers at the famed Mayfair fashion house of Norman Hartnell. Together they forge an unlikely friendship, but their nascent hopes for a brighter future are tested when they are chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime honor: taking part in the creation of Princess Elizabeth’s wedding gown.
Toronto, 2016: More than half a century later, Heather Mackenzie seeks to unravel the mystery of a set of embroidered flowers, a legacy from her late grandmother. How did her beloved Nan, a woman who never spoke of her old life in Britain, come to possess the priceless embroideries that so closely resemble the motifs on the stunning gown worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her wedding almost seventy years before? And what was her Nan’s connection to the celebrated textile artist and holocaust survivor Miriam Dassin?

With The Gown, Jennifer Robson takes us inside the workrooms where one of the most famous wedding gowns in history was created. Balancing behind-the-scenes details with a sweeping portrait of a society left reeling by the calamitous costs of victory, she introduces readers to three unforgettable heroines, their points of view alternating and intersecting throughout its pages, whose lives are woven together by the pain of survival, the bonds of friendship, and the redemptive power of love.

Review:  The Gown is probably the first book I've read since the death of my mother that really pulled me in and made me not want to put it down.

I absolutely loved this book, even though part of me expected it to be more about Elizabeth and Phillip. I quickly became engrossed in Ann, Miriam and Heather's story and how their lives intertwine through the ages.

Jennifer Robson brings the late 40s in England come to life. The struggles of the girls and the excitement of a Royal Wedding. I found myself caught up in that excitement too, and I googled many times over to see Elizabeth's wedding gown, which is simply stunning.

Ann, we learned is Heather's Nan, who has recently passed away.  I loved learning how Heather uncovers her gran's secrets, as her family never really learned much about her life in England.

This is a stunning novel that anyone that loves historical fiction will enjoy.

Excerpt :

Let’s go.” He dug out a four-inch black flashlight from his pocket and turned it on. He threaded his fingers through hers.

The simple action felt intimate and personal, but she didn’t have time to react. He was leading her forward. Sticks and twigs crunched beneath their feet. They ducked under branches.

The blackness closed around them. She struggled to inhale and exhale calmly.

I’m fine. She angled her head upward, seeking the starlight.

Suddenly, her shoe caught in a hole. She lost her balance.

Travis tightened his grip and reached under her elbow to steady her. “You okay?”

The hooting of an owl answered.

She wet her dry lips. “Super.”

They walked until the trees thinned. An overgrown field lay ahead. A shrill scream sent quivers shooting through her.

What was that?” She blinked, staring over her shoulder into the pines. “Was something or someone under attack?”

Red fox. You must have heard one before.”

Not that I recall. Though as long as it’s not Seth, I’m good.”

He released her hand and tramped to the edge of a field. “My uncle’s main hiding place was around here somewhere.”

Somewhere?” She tightened her lips to keep them from quaking.

I’ll find it.” He paced a few feet into the meadow of shrubs, knee-high gras, and waved her forward.

Found it by the large oak. He pointed to a towering tree bordering the forest. Its limbs seemed to hover just beneath the sky now a mixture of stars and clouds.

Review: Midnight Girl is the fourth book in the Love & Mystery in the 6 oh 3 series. It can be read as a stand alone, but you'll want to read all the other books by the time you finish.

I've been getting into more suspenseful reads lately and this book is definitely a winner.

Lisa was kidnapped and now, five years later she learners her kidnapper has escaped. Even worse, there's a girl from her town missing, which makes her wonder if her kidnapper is at it again, and if he's going to come for her next for sending him to prison.

Her ex is back in the picture and he happens to be the nephew of her kidnapper.

I was really impressed with the characters in this book. Lisa is a strong character. I also liked that there is a bit of romance mixed in with her ex.

This is a fabulous whodunit!

Book Review: Second Chance With The Billionaire

Author: Janice Maynard
Title: Second Chance With The Billionaire
Publisher: Harlequin Desire
Publish Date: Aug 1, 2015
Buy: Amazon
Book Blurb: It's a steamy reunion between a single mom and the billionaire who got away, from USA TODAY bestselling author Janice Maynard

Former ski champion Conor Kavanagh enjoys a challenge. And he's encountered no challenge more arousing than Ellie Porter. Once, she broke his heart. Now that she's back in town? He can't seem to stay away…

But Ellie has changed. Widowed, with a baby, she has responsibilities—and secrets—weighing her down. Still, his desire for her is undeniable. Surely, he can have her without giving up his heart—or his daredevil ways? He's willing to risk it all to find out…

Review:  I always hope the first read of the year signals how all my reads will be, however with Second Chance With the Billionaire, I don't want to have that hope.

I've had this book on my TBR for quite awhile and I wanted a quick read to clear my head. I've been having a rough time getting into books for the last few months.

I have mixed feelings for second chance novels because they always seem to have one character pining forever for the other and not living their lives in a natural fashion.

That wasn't the case so much here, though Conor did almost fall into that description. It was a good thing that he was really a stand up guy that made you forget that Ellie had dumped him because of his love for adventurous sport. He also doesn't carry the baggage in this relationship, that's for Ellie.

The sparks are definitely there between these two, but its a slow burn, because Conor has a conscience and a good one. I can understand his not wanting something physical to start with Ellie because she hasn't had a chance to properly grieve her husband, having taken on the care of her twin brother, who was seriously injured in the same accident that killed her husband and becoming a mother.

Now if only I didn't have the doubts from early on that Ellie's marriage wasn't a good one, or that it was about to end when the accident occurred.

That's another second chance pet peeve of mine. No character is ever allowed to have two good loves in their life.

This less than 200 page book took me much longer to read than necessary and left me with a so so feeling. Yes, there was great heat between Conor and Ellie, but the relationship was too lackluster for me to get excited about.
