Review: I don't usually go for romantic suspense, but wow this book is the best of the best.

Justice Parish is truly one of the most kick butt heroines I've encountered in ages. This is a girl that doesn't have a soft spot anywhere. She's loyal, she's fierce, and she's really amazing.

Sandesh is kick butt, but he works for a charity, so he's not totally into the crazed sort of fighting that Justice is involved in.

The chemistry between these two is really electric, though very fast. The relationship between those two really was off the charts. I just wish it would have been in a little more developed. It just sort of happened with very little conflict. What I did like about these two is that though Sandesh was just as tough of Justice, he was more grounded and even had a touch of gentleness to him, for lack of a better word. I think he was a good foil for Justice who seemed to want to go into everything guns blazing.

The action involves taking down a team of human traffickers, and the possibility of a Parish family member turning on the team. We get to know Justice's other "sisters" while they try to figure out who the betrayer was. The ultimate outcome of that was somewhat of a surprise to me, and yet the reasoning for their actions was more understandable and almost justifiable.

As I learned more about "The League" I wasn't sure how I felt about "Momma" and her motives

This book was a real page turner with action from start to finish.

This book was a step out of my comfort zone, but I'm glad I read it. I really couldn't put it down.

Oh and Groot would gladly be part of the league.

Book Review: The Captive

Review:  I don't think I've ever read a historical romance that I've loved as much as The Captive. Grace Burrowes creates a hero and a heroine that you will love.

Both Christian and Gilly are broken people. Both have been abused, but in different ways, but together they fix each other and make each other whole.

That sums up the book in a nutshell

Both characters are strong willed, but they are so obviously in love with one another. I loved that there were no histrionics from Gilly and that she easily fell in love with him after her horrid marriage to Greendale.

These are two people that should be wary of love and relationships because of the things that happened to them, but instead they make each other better.

There's almost a sort of innocence between these two and their relationship, even when it turns sexual. (I loved that it took to nearly the halfway point before they consummated their relationship.) Grace chooses to let the reader know more of what happened to Christian when he was captured by the French, and though I love some steamy scenes, I preferred to learn more about him.

It took longer to find out about Gilly's bad marriage, though there were clues as to how bad it could be.

Nothing prepares you for the ending, which left me speechless. I don't want to spoil it, but suffice to say, the bad guy isn't necessarily who you think he is.

Grace Burrowes is definitely one of my favorite authors of historical romance. This is a must read!

Book Review: One Day In Apple Grove

Review: I wanted to read this book from the moment I laid eyes on the cover. One Day In Apple Grove is book 2 in the Small Town USA series. That alone had me excited. I love novels that are based in small town America, like Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove. I love the local color and the quirky residents that these towns have.

But everything about this book is too good to be true. From Caitlin, the sweet small town girl, working in her parent's business to Jack the wounded soldier who has come home to take over his father's family practice.

The only thing that really made this story fun was the little black dog, Jamie, who was a holy terror, much like Marley! I love how their relationship grew out of caring for this stray animal while they waited to see if he had an owner, however the plot twist that involved his owner didn't sit well with me at all.

Don't get me wrong, this wasn't a bad book, it just felt like something that has been written a hundred million times over. Well that and maybe how Caitlin comes across as very childlike at the beginning of the book.

Truth be told, I almost thought she was a teenager and not a woman in her twenties.

Her relationship with Jack grows out of taking care of the dog. That was cute. I loved the things that Jamie got into. He was such a typical puppy.

Which brings me to the romance element. There's definitely chemistry between Cait and Jack, but the sex scenes just didn't work for me. Maybe it is me, but I prefer sweet romance with illusions of love making in these small town books.

And then there's Jack's PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for those not in the know). I wish something else could have been the root of the very small amount of conflict in this book.

If you are looking for a book to pass the time, this is as good as any, but don't expect a stellar read.
