A Chick Who Reads' Book Buying Extravaganza!

I went to Half Price Books and Barnes and Noble today..and I spent...*gasp* about $68.00 between the two stores. Because you know, books aren't covering every surface in my house yet! There are a few bare spots where you can see the floor or counter tops!

This is what I bought

Anne of Green Gables (Modern Library Classics)Memoirs of a Scandalous Red DressWhen Beauty Tamed the Beast

The Secret History of the Pink CarnationThe Other QueenThe King's Daughter

Mrs. PerfectThe Countess and the King: A Novel of the Countess of Dorchester and King James II

Sins of the House of Borgia

Oh and like a fool there was one book on sale that I wasn't sure if I had or not...and I bought it...I came home and of course I had it.

Secrets of the Tudor Court: The Pleasure Palace

I'm considering a giveaway for this one, but I'm not sure yet.

So what have you been buying for your book shelves?

Oye!

Let's not discuss the size of my TBR pile, m'kay. Let's just look at the great books I got today when I shouldn't have been spending any money.

Death by Diamonds (A Vintage Magic Mystery)My Three Husbands

Wedding Day Kittens (Zebra Regency Romance)His Christmas Pleasure (Avon)

Plain and Fancy (Brides of Lancaster County, Book 3)White Christmas Pie

Going Shopping

My friend Jen and I are heading out today, hopefully for a little shopping and when shopping is mentioned there is always a bookstore that we will be heading too. I could stand a few hours perusing (have I mentioned I love that word?) the shelves at Barnes and Noble or Half Price Books.

I hope to possibly find one or two of the books from my wishlist today or at least something new to amuse me. (As if I'm not surrounded by books now)

I'm also hoping to cure the Starbucks craving I've been having all week. Why is it that when there is a 'bucks no more then 3 miles away, in a shopping plaza I pass several times a week, I never stop there? Oh yeah, I never have extra money!

Today, however, I am treating myself. So hopefully when I come back I'll have some goodies. Oh and did I mention there's a sale at Bath And Body Works?

Books, coffee and sweet smelling stuff, that's what makes this girl happy. (Maybe a hunky man too)

I Am Anal About My Books

I was at Goodwill today, perusing the used books when I happened across The Other Boleyn Girl. I've wanted to read that book for ages and ages. I pulled the book out and gave it a through inspection and put it back.

Why?

It was too beat up.

Granted the book was only 99 cents, but this is a book that will likely end up on my bookshelf for its life, and I don't want a copy that looks like it went through a war. None of the books I buy look like that after reading, so if its a keeper book, then I don't want the book to look that way when I bring it home.

My mother thinks I was nuts to pass up the book, but I just couldn't bring myself to bring home a book that I really hope to love that's already battered and broken.

Please tell me that I'm not the only one that would do something like this.

It Was A Good Book Day

Let me first say that driving a BRAND NEW CHEVY COBALT even for 3 days is totally awesome. This car has less than 2000 miles on it. I've never ever driven anything that new.

So, I'm motoring along in the Cobalt, did I mention its red? Yes, its gorgeous and RED! I go to the gym like a good little girl. Then I head off to Goodwill aka: Best Used Bookstore in the area.

Lots of books but slim pickings if you are in the market for some romance, however I did find two great books.

The first one being a reprint of one of Janet Evanovich's novels for Loveswept called "The Grand Finale." I wonder if anyone has the originals? I bet those are worth a mint if they are in good condition.

This should tide me over until Sizzling Sixteen comes out in June. I'm super excited for that, because I love Stephanie Plum novels. Though I have to say I wouldn't mind a new "Metro Girl" books sometime soon.

The next book is one by Candace Camp called The Wedding Challenge. I love a good historical, and if its set in England, all the better.

The best thing about my purchases? The cost! I got both books for $2.10! You really can't beat that. I couldn't believe I found those two, because other than that, there really wasn't much to excite me in the book section of the store.

I've got lots to read. Now I just have to find more time to pick up these books. In fact, I need to finish reading Jen Lancaster's Bright Lights Big Ass, because, well, its fan-freaking-tastic and it makes me laugh until I pee myself!

Yeah TMI! But its such a good book!

A Book Buying Extravaganza

Today was book day. Saturday's always seem to be that way for me. I received 2 shipments from Harlequin in the mail and I went a little crazy at Target and Goodwill. Needless to say, my "To Be Read" pile has just gotten a little bit larger. Not that it matters. I love buying books. I love standing in the book section of stores and just reading the back blurbs.

I love doing that more in used book stores. That's usually when you can find me sitting on the floor going through book after book deciding which blurbs make the book worthy of coming home with me.

So what did I buy today? Besides the eharlequin stuff which is just too numerous to mention?

Jen Lancaster's Bitter Is The New Black
Nancy Warren's Too Hot To Handle
Michelle Reid's The Ultimate Betrayal
Luanne Rice's Beach Girls
Adriana Trigiani's Lucia Lucia
Sarah Strohmeyer's The Cinderella Pack
Gillian Shield's Immortal

Lots of reading to be done! The question now is, which one to start?

I Remember When

There was a time when my idea of a great day shopping involved combing through aisles and aisles of clothing.

I still enjoy doing that from time to time, because I love pretty clothes, but anymore the thing that really makes me happy is going to a book store. Any book store. Used books make me the happiest, because they are cheaper, but I'l take Barnes & Noble or Books A Million too, because they come with coffee!

When I think of my plans for the weekened, I always wonder if I'll be able to get a trip to Goodwill in, so I can see if there are any new books on the shelves for 99 cents. That's the kind of thing that brings me joy, even if the floors of my house are covered with used paperbacks of every size and shape imaginable.

Imagine my glee when I get to go somewhere like Paradox Books in Wheeling, WV where a lot of my favorite romances only cost 50 cents! I can't begin to tell you how happy that makes me. I only wish I could get there soon. I haven't been to Wheeling since Christmas shopping season.

I'm hoping that this weekend I can combine two of my favorite shopping past times, clothes and books, even though I'm flat broke!
