All I Want For Christmas #7

I found this meme over at Danya's site, so if you decide to play along, go there and drop off your link.

This is a feature/meme where I choose a book each week leading up to Christmas and say why it's made it onto my wishlist – and I'd love to see what books everyone else is hoping to get!

Bespelling Jane Austen: Almost Persuaded\Northanger Castle\Blood and Prejudice\Little to Hex HerAuthor: Mary Balogh, Colleen Gleason, Susan Krinard, Janet Mullany
Book Title: Bespelling Jane Austen
Book Blurb: But even if the whole world was against them, it would not matter. They were together—again. And this time they would remain together. Until death do them part and, of course, long after that.
What if Austen had believed in reincarnation and vampires? Join four bestselling romance authors as they channel the wit and wisdom of Jane Austen.

Almost Persuaded

In this Regency tale of Robert and Jane, New York Times bestselling author Mary Balogh brings together former lovers who have seen beyond the veil of forgetfulness to their past mistakes, and are determined to be together in this life, and forever.

Northanger Castle

Caroline's obsession with Gothic novels winds up being good training for a lifetime of destroying the undead with her newfound beau, in this Regency by Colleen Gleason.

Blood and Prejudice

Set in the business world of contemporary New York City, Liz Bennett joins Mr. Darcy in his hunt for a vampire cure in New York Times bestselling author Susan Krinard's version of the classic story.

Little to Hex Her

Present-day Washington, D.C., is full of curious creatures in Janet Mullany's story, wherein Emma is a witch with a wizard boyfriend and a paranormal dating service to run.

Why I Want This: I'm actually reading a Galley of this right now, and I love it so much I must have my own copy. I hope to have a review of this book posted soon. So I really hope someone gets it for me...so I can read it again!

All I Want For Christmas #6

This is a feature/meme where I choose a book each week leading up to Christmas and say why it's made it onto my wishlist – and I'd love to see what books everyone else is hoping to get!

The Choice (Lancaster County Secrets, Book 1)I found this meme over at Danya's site, so if you decide to play along, go there and drop off your link.

Author: Suzanne Woods Fisher
Title: The Choice (Lancaster County Secrets, Book 1)
Book Blurb: With a vibrant, fresh style Suzanne Woods Fisher brings readers into the world of a young Amish woman torn between following the man she loves--or joining the community of faith that sustains her, even as she questions some of the decisions of her elders. Her choice begins a torrent of change for her and her family, including a marriage of convenience to silent Daniel Miller. Both bring broken hearts into their arrangement--and secrets that have been held too long. Filled with gentle romance, The Choice opens the world of the Amish--their strong communities, their simple life, and their willingness to put each other first. Combined with Fisher's exceptional gift for character development, this novel, the first in a series, is a welcome reminder that it is never too late to find your way back to God.

Have I mentioned that I'm a sucker for Amish stories? If I haven't. I'm a huge sucker for Amish stories. I've really become addicted thanks to discovering authors like Marta Perry and Beverly Lewis in the past year. Now I gobble these books up like candy.

All I Want For Christmas #5

This is a feature/meme where I choose a book each week leading up to Christmas and say why it's made it onto my wishlist – and I'd love to see what books everyone else is hoping to get!

Happy Ever After (Bride Quartet)Author: Nora Roberts
Title: Happy Ever After
Why I Want It: I have all the other books in this series. I absolutely adore Nora's books. I've read her romances since I was in high school, and she always delivers a quality story.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to find this one under the tree this year, as I've given a few people hints about the books that I'm looking forward to reading.

OK, so I told my nephew that this was what I wanted, and since we're doing a $15.00 or less gift exchange this year (as we are all financially strapped) I pretty much know I'm getting it.

Mozart's Sister
Author: Nancy Moser
Title: Mozart's Sister
Book Blurb: Nannerl Mozart's early days seem to be the stuff of fairy tales--traveling far and wide, performing piano concerts with her younger brother, Wolfgang, before the crowned heads of Europe. But behind the glamour lurk dark difficulties--the hardship of travel, agonizing bouts of illness, and the constant concern over money. Their father, Leopold, is driven by a desire to bring his son's genius to the attention of the world. But what about Nannerl? Is she not just as talented? In a world where women's choices are limited, what hope does she have of ever realizing her own dreams? In this lovingly crafted novel, author Nancy Moser brings to life one of history's hidden heroines.

Why I Want This Book: I love historical stories like this. Plus this one is different because it isn't about royalty, which is my usual favorite subject matter for historical fiction.

All I Want For Christmas # 3

Author: Jill Mansell
Title: Take A Chance On Me
Book Blurb: The latest confection from the author of Perfect Timing (2009) is about what happens when your past collides with your present. In tiny Channings Hill, chauffeur Cleo can’t help but run into her childhood tormentor Johnny LaVenture at every turn. Now a successful artist, he’s back in town to settle his uncle’s estate. Cleo takes solace in the fact that she’s dating perfect Will until his perfect wife Fia shows up on her doorstep. Cleo dumps Will, but she can’t avoid Fia, who has decided to stick around Channings Hill and becomes the object of Cleo’s friend Ash’s affections. Cleo is nursing a crush, too, as she realizes that Johnny has outgrown his teasing ways. Then he receives a surprise of his own from his supermodel ex-girlfriend. Quirky characters, a charming setting, and misunderstandings aplenty make this madcap romantic comedy a fun, light read.
Why I Want This Book: I've heard about this author from so many people and I have several of her books on my wishlist, but I really like the looks of the plot. It looks like a fun, curl up on the couch on a cold night, read.

Going PostalAuthor: Terry Pratchett
Title: Going Postal
Book Blurb:  British fantasist Pratchett's latest special-delivery delight, set in his wonderfully crazed city of Ankh-Morpork, hilariously reflects the plight of post offices the world over as they struggle to compete in an era when e-mail has stolen much of the glamour from the postal trade. Soon after Moist von Lipwig (aka Alfred Spangler), Pratchett's not-quite-hapless, accidental hero, barely avoids hanging, Lord Havelock Vetinari, the despotic but pretty cool ruler of Ankh-Morpork, makes him a job offer he can't refuse—postmaster general of the Ankh-Morpork Post Office. The post office hasn't been open for 20 years since the advent of the Internet-like clacks communication system. Moist's first impulse is to try to escape, but Mr. Pump, his golem parole officer, quickly catches him. Moist must then deal with the musty mounds of undelivered mail that fill every room of the decaying Post Office building maintained by ancient and smelly Junior Postman Groat and his callow assistant, Apprentice Postman Stanley. The place is also haunted by dead postmen and guarded by Mr. Tiddles, a crafty cat. Readers will cheer Moist on as he eventually finds himself in a race with the dysfunctional clacks system to see whose message can be delivered first. Thanks to the timely subject matter and Pratchett's effervescent wit, this 29th Discworld novel (after 2003's Monstrous Regiment) may capture more of the American audience he deserves.

Reason I Want This Book: I've been obsessed with getting this book since I watch the ITV movie based on this book. The movie stared my favorite UK actor, Richard Coyle as Moist Von Lipwig. Its one of the few times where I think I'll be happy to have a visual of a character before I read the book.

Want the same visual?

Here's my first wishlist book

Author: Sheila Roberts
Title: On Strike For Christmas
Book Blurb: Roberts's sweetly vengeful dig at do-nothing husbands follows a smalltown knitting club of wives who are sick and tired of toiling over elaborate Christmas preparations that their husbands don't appreciate. As they go on strike, the women try to stay in solidarity, while the husbands plan retaliation at the hardware store. Roberts revels in detailing the husbands' awkward, often disastrous handling of tasks their wives habitually do for Christmas (taking the kids to see Santa, planning the party, doing up the house). By the end of this gently feminist sendup, each side learns to be grateful for the other's efforts.

Why its on my wishlist: I'm a sucker for books about the holidays. I'm an even bigger sucker for books that make me laugh and this one looks like one that will have me giggling quite a bit.
