Lyla Dupree
She’s a bubbly, sugary sweet pastry chef. Living her best life in the Big Apple. Luxury apartment. Successful patisserie. Everything is great–better than great. It's absolutely perfect.

Raleigh Jacobs
He’s grumbly and growly–and so very out of his element–working on a temporary assignment in NYC. He wants to do his job and get out. Back to the clean air in the mountains near Denver.

Throw them together.
Mix things up.
Turn up the heat and what you get is, quite simply, alarming.

After all, 425 Madison is the perfect place to fall in love.

The door next to me swings open, and a giant of lean muscle, scruffy cheeks, and deep dark brown scowling eyes steps out into the hallway, startling me.
With a really unladylike gasp, I stumble backward until my back hits the doorjamb. “Oh, I’m so sorry,” I squeak. “You scared me. Welcome. Kent emailed me that he’d sublet his place for a couple of months, though he didn’t tell me anything about you. Not that he needed to, I mean, it’s none of my business, really. I’m Lyla Dupree, it’s lovely to meet you.” I thrust my hand out to shake, but he just stares, so I let it fall back to my side.
I’m rambling, and I can’t seem to stop. It’s my thing when I’m nervous, but my roommate Sasha tells me it comes off as bubbly and kind of sweet. From the look on this guy’s face, though, I wonder if she’s just been blowing sunshine up my butt because he looks pissed. And that just makes me even more nervous, so the bubbly word vomit continues.
You picked an amazing place to live while you’re here in the city. Where are you from? Somewhere out west, maybe? I mean, not that I know. I already told you that, so it’s just a guess, but with the flannel and the beanie…” Dear Jesus, now would be a perfect time for me to shut up. “Anyway, I just finished testing a new recipe, I’m a chef. I don’t know if Kent mentioned that when you talked about the sublet, but he should have. I mean, I do pastries, and my roommate Sasha does more of the real food. Oh my God, she makes the best mac and cheese, truly she’s amazing. Kent said it was a good thing he had to leave for this temporary assignment in London. Something about gaining weight if he lived next to us for too much longer. I don’t know, though, I think something might have happened between him and Sasha, you know? They both kind of started acting funny and then the next thing I know he’s taking a job in England for a year. But, whatever. Do you like sweets? Cakes, cookies, pastries? Any food allergies I should know about?”
And, cue uncomfortable silence.

Review: I discovered K C Enders last year so I was super excited to see her join in on the 425 Madison series. This book definitely was a winner for me. I love when food is involved in my fiction. So Lyla is definitely a winner in my book for favorite heroines, especially as her apartment smoke alarm doesn't seem to like her even though her treats are spectacular.

That's how she meets Raleigh. Raleigh is a single dad. I kinda love this trope all of a sudden. He's a grump. Both are bad at relationships but both seem to click together. About the only thing that always seems to accompany a single dad story is a bad mom. Bad mom's in stories make my heart hurt. I really wish there would be a story where the relationship just couldn't work out and mom wasn't a slut, who didn't give a crap about her child.

I'll stop griping about that though. These two had a strange coming together. They both had sparks, but a real relationship wasn't really looking to be in the cards. Raleigh was only in NYC temporarily

It was really when his crazy ex drops his son off at 425 Madison that he really gets close to Lyla. I love the scenes with her and his son.

The big city didn't mix well with Raleigh though and he makes a bad choice.

Here's where the story annoyed me a because a failed relationship sends Lyla back to Colorado, where Raleigh lives btw. I couldn't fathom having two bakeries one in Colorado and another in NYC, also I couldn't figure out how she just opened a new business right away. AKA running away from her problems when she had a great life and a wonderful place to live.

It seemed to happen way too quickly for me, but it did allow for Lyla and Raleigh to find each other again.

This was a sweet slow burn read and a good addition to my favorite series.

Forever Write PR Book Tour Book Review: Tombstones

Author:  K.C. Enders
Title: Tombstones
Publish Date: April 15, 2019
Book Blurb: No strings. No mess. No complications. It was supposed to be just a month of fun. But two blue lines have them both considering a future that neither of them knew they wanted.

KATE BEARD
Kindergarten teacher.
Tequila connoisseur.
Expert in finding Mr. WRONG.
Ever since Kate discovered the man she thought she’d marry macking on his boyfriend, she has had nothing but bad luck in love.
What she needs is a fresh start.
When MURPHY and his damn LAW drop the perfect man right in front of her, it’s just her luck that he’s only there temporarily.

WYATT JACKSON
Captain, Special Forces.
Confirmed bachelor.
In the running for uncle of the year.
One month stateside to enjoy top-shelf tequila, lose himself in a gorgeous woman, and to try and forget the desert.
What he needed was a reset. What he got, was a sassy southern woman hellbent on bringing him to his knees.
Neither thought they’d find forever between tragedy and tombstones.

Review: I am so glad I discovered KC Enders last year, when I started reading more romance again. I loved this book from the very start because the characters are so powerful and so real. It is impossible not to love these two.

Kate is a NYC school teacher. (She's the second teacher heroine I've read about in the last few weeks.) She's a southern transplant and super sassy, with a history of some bad dates. OK really bad dates.

Jack is home on leave for a month and really just looking for a Miss Right now.

Oh and then there's the matter of the little boy, who is Jack's bff's son. He is quite possibly the most precious child I've encountered in any book I've read.

I just don't know where to begin with this book. Its funny, its sad, its fabulous. It combines two tropes, unplanned pregnancy and military romance, two that I don't usually pick, but it was done so well here. This book is perfect!

There is one scene with a condom very early on in the book that had me laughing out loud. This type of scene isn't what I'd expect in any romance I've read, and it had me in absolute stitches.

Near the end your heart may be yanked out and tossed on the floor, because OMG the heartbreaking loss and feels.  I was gutted for awhile there with all the emotions this story gave me.

KC Enders is up there with Andrea Johnston as one of my favorite authors now.

I startle Martha laying a hand on her back as she’s gunning for my class table. “Little Mr. Triplett needs
a write-up to the office, Miss Beard. In fact, I was just about to take him down there and get things
back in order here,” she huffs at me. Martha is the elementary school equivalent of the SWAT.
She runs a tight ship, and nobody messes with that.
“Yeah, Jake’s had a rough morning, but let’s give him a hot minute and just see if he can pull himself out of whatever this is. What’s he been doing?” I ask glancing over my shoulder toward the table reserved for my students.
Hot damn.
That is most definitely not one of my kindergartners.
Making a show of fanning myself, I tease, “Miss Martha, you sure you don’t just want to go over there
and flirt with that fine specimen of man sitting next to Jake?” Because holy fuck is he ever?
Martha pauses and looks at the tall man folded awkwardly into the bench and table combo that
perfectly fits our smallest students. “Miss Beard,” she says exasperatedly.
“I’m old enough to be his mother.” She flutters her hand at her throat, clutching at the neck of the candy cane printed turtleneck that complements her black sweater vest, presents and bows appliqued festively down the front.
“Doesn’t mean you can’t look.” I hit her with a wink and lean in conspiratorially.
“You calling dibs on him? Or can I go see what has Jake all riled up?”
“Dear Lord, you’re just terrible,” she mutters.
The man sitting smack dab in the middle of the bench is obviously a source of great interest to my kids. Jake alternates between sitting so close to the man a piece of tissue paper would feel squished, and standing, holding court with his tall, muscly friend. Probably his dad. He did mention that his father was home earlier. He’s got all the tell-tale patience of a father visiting his excited kiddo at school. Helping each child open whatever container or snack bag they hand him. Chatting with each of them in turn.
Chloe Triplett is a very lucky woman if that man is warming her bed at night—when he’s in town,
anyway. His broad shoulders test the tensile strength of the fabric of his plaid shirt, molding almost poetically around a muscular back, tapering in that perfect V to a well-formed ass. God forgive me for lusting after my student’s father-please and thank you. I pray silently.
Closely cropped dark brown hair fades into maybe two-day scruff that peppers a strong jawline.
Plump lips hitch up when the question of the moment is interrupted by Amelia telling him he’s got
pretty eyes. His shoulders shake ever so slightly as he rumbles out a “thank you, and so do you.”
Be still my heart.
