Review:  This was a perfect light read for me after some trips down some different genres. It was nice to read a family/friend oriented book for once. This is Christian fiction but there's nothing preachy about it. The main theme, you'll find in this book, however is forgiveness.

When Madeline finds her aunt has left her The Printed Letter Bookshop, she's a bit gobsmacked. She hasn't had much contact with her and she's a lawyer, not a shop owner. Fate has other plans for Madeline though. Her life doesn't turn out quite how she planned it and the bookshop starts to take over her life. She also meets someone that changes things for her.

Its hard to describe some of the things that happen in Madeline's life without giving away the plot, but suffice to say she has some choices to make and she has things to learn.

Then there's Claire and Janet, two very different women that work for her. Both of them come with a unique set of problems too. But isn't that life? I really loved how their life and problems all managed to get entwined with the bookshop. Those problems are heartbreaking to say the least. This book has so many "feels" in it.

There are some happy moments too, especially with Janet at the end and Madeline as she works to find balance as her career isn't quite how it started.

There was a lot of friendship and love in this book, as well as forgiveness...so much forgiveness. I only wish Madeline would have been able to talk to her aunt, because Maddie was definitely a good soul and it had to be heartbreaking to know someone truly loved you, but because of a misunderstanding you pushed them aside.

Its really a sweet touching read that will stay with you for a long time after you finish it.

Review:  I have read several of the now 28 books in this series over the years. Its hard to believe its already 28 books. Of course, I say that about Stephanie Plum too as her series is pretty high up there too.

This mystery is set in two time periods, which is very cool for a cozy. If you are familiar with this series, the pets are all very much part of the series. They are talking pets. Really! I find it so adorable.

Harry is working to solve a new and an old mystery with the help of her friends.

This was definitely a different spin on the series I've read before, but it was a solid and fun read with a bit of history thrown in the mix as well.

A few things though...

The book opens with a spring snowstorm that's a glaring error. She calls the storm a Nor'Easter but then says the snow has started in New England when Harry and her friends are in VA. That's not how those storms work.

The set up of the story is a bit confusing as well. I understand how you need to get to know the people from the past, but the way the story jumps without any flow between the time periods, made reading a bit confusing at the start.

I felt like there wasn't enough time spent in the present and there was no real sleuthing done. Also..I didn't like a few political things tossed in, because it seems the author missed out on some of her facts there too.

What I did like was the historical aspect, and reading this book made me wonder if Ms Brown doesn't want to venture into that arena at some point with benefit of her cast of cozy characters.

This was an enjoyable read though nonetheless

Review:  There's a little big of a double entendre going on with the title. Baby /Doe heads west with her new husband, Harvey. Almost from the start, you know this is not a marriage that is going to go along swimmingly. Harvey has asthma and the altitude in Colorado is causing him a lot of difficulty. The mining life, definitely isn't for him.

Baby is soon left alone and pregnant and forced to find her own way. Thankfully she ended up working with a haberdashery before her life really starts changing

That change comes in the face of  Horace Tabor, and older married silver miner.

So much scandal there. It doesn't really help matters that Baby Doe is beautiful. She's pretty smart too. Or at least smart enough to know how to survive. But Horace does have a wife of 20 + years and a son.

This book was so interesting, because like most historical characters, they aren't always likable, but they sure are intriguing.

Sometimes I had to wonder about Baby Doe and the decisions she made. Being brought up Catholic she would have had to have known she wasn't going to have it easy divorcing and remarrying. In 2019 divorce still isn't all that acceptable in the church and considering there was a pregnancy, it would have been pretty hard to get that marriage annulled.

I also wondered about Horace. He had so much to lose leaving his wife.

The power of love, maybe? I wasn't 100 % convinced though until the end.

There's a lot of stuff to learn here too. I think that's what I really love about good historical fiction, you want to learn more and you want to google as you go along. I was constantly checking the Wiki pages for Baby Doe and Horace Tabor to learn more about their lives. You also know that calling it the Wild West was probably an understatement.

What I really liked was the way the story was presented, from both Baby Doe's and Horace's points of view. 

This was a fabulous read!

Review: I don't usually read YA but this book's premise really intrigued me. Our hero who is still getting over being dumped by his famous girlfriend.  But the book is more than just that. A history assignment pairs him with a mysterious new student who introduces him to a WWII vet in a nursing home.

This book was a wonderfully paced adventure that is totally unputdownable no matter what your age.

These are characters you will laugh and cry with as the story goes on.

Totally a great read!

Review: I'm just going to start out by saying, OMG this book is AMAZING!  Its a thriller with a mixture of YA, since you get the point of view of the teenagers, and its also got a bit of police procedural going on as well.

From the opening pages, YOU WILL BE HOOKED!

You get many points of view here...which oddly isn't confusing, that's how well written this book is.

The characters are well developed. There are times when I wanted to smack a few of them, but you will be invested in all of them. Even, as I said when you wanted to smack them silly..cough cough..Sophie..

Sophie is a character that brings up a lot of conflicting feelings. She's in a some ways very typical of the average teenager. It actually had me googling later on about when to tell your child they are adopted.

The one thing that I really found great about this book is the way she kept the identity of the killer a secret until the end. It was really a shocker for me when things started to be revealed. Though in hindsight there are some things that should point to the killer. (So I might just be a little daft with this one)

I can't begin to say how much I enjoyed this book. I can only say, if thrillers are your thing. You can't miss this one. I'm going back to read the other books in the series
