“I’m here for Corina Davies in 1205,” I respond, my nerves rattling even louder than five
minutes ago when I was seized with the instinct to see her.

“Is she expecting you?” he asks, resting his hand on the phone.

I shake my head. The guy must think I’m a weirdo for just showing up like this. He’s going to
call her for sure.

Sure enough, he picks up the phone. “Ms. Davies, you have a visitor,” he says, and then
looks back at me.

“Your name?”

I almost turn around to walk back out into the night, but I stay rooted to the spot. “Kurt.
Kurt Owens.”

“Kurt Owens. Thanks.” He turns to me again and nods.

“Go ahead. Have a good evening.”

I head for the elevator, and my heart rate rises with each step. She’s gonna think I’m fucking
nuts for showing up like this at midnight. And why am I doing this again? What do I hope to
achieve by interrupting whatever relaxing activity she’s enjoying at this time of night?

 I don’t know, but the thought of seeing her makes my palms sweat. I remember that skirt she
wore, and how soft her legs looked. My cock twitches at the memory of her silky-smooth legs.

 Fuck. Down, boy. We’re not here for that.

I step into the elevator and before I know it, I’m standing in front of her door, my hand in the
air. What am I going to tell her? What’s my excuse for showing up here so late? At the very
least, I have to admit it to myself—I just want to see her. I have to see her. There’s no denying
the spark that flew between us the other night. All those years hadn’t done a damn thing to kill
our chemistry.

It sure is ballsy to just show up here. Maybe I’ve had a bit much to drink, but I’m not drunk. I’m
not slurring or falling over myself. She won’t notice.

Finally, I knock. She’s expecting me, because she opens up right away. Seeing her knocks the
wind out of me. Her hair rests over her shoulders in this sexy, yet natural way; she has a hint
of makeup, but not much. She doesn’t need any. She’s still a natural beauty, just like she was
all those years ago.

A light pink, silk robe clings to her body and ends just above the knees. She ties up the belt,
very tight, as if afraid it might slip off any minute. Or that I might see what’s underneath. I try to
push the thought from my head.
“Hi,” I say, hoping I don’t look as awkward as I feel. I’m standing in her doorway, without any good reason whatsoever, like a doofus. She’d be perfectly justified in turning me away with some excuse about going to sleep or whatever. But, she doesn’t.
She stands back to let me in.

“Hi, Kurt.”

I love the way my name sounds on her lips. Her lush, rosy lips. So smooth and kissable.

Review: What's not to love about the 425 Madison series? Not much!

This was a great best friend's sibling romance. Is that a trope?

They had the best chemistry from the start.

How they work out their relationship is wonderful A little bit strange at times, but wonderful. I was a little befuddled at why they seemed to be worried about what Corina's brother felt about her being involved with Kurt and not the fact that he got her a job. She referenced #MeToo but I don't think that it was being referenced in quite the way that it should be.

I devoured this book, like a chocolate bar.  Its a quick fun read, that definitely falls into the beach read category. I always read romance when I used to tan.

Review: I have to admit, Denise Hunter is one of my favorite "clean" writers. I read all kinds of books, some sexy, and some not so much. I don't care about the heat level if the story is good. 

Denise Hunter writes stories that don't need sexy bits. You get invested the character's lives. I love Connor and Maddy. But this book was more than just a summer romance. It is about family and forgiveness, with a little bit of faith tossed in the mix, but not enough to deter the average reader.

I have always liked that Denise writes about "real" people with "real" people problems. (though some, like in this story are a little bit exaggerated). You feel like you could know Maddy and her sisters, as the story progresses.

This continues my 2019 summer beach reads and this one is definitely a keeper.

“Since this isn’t our Publix, I’m assuming you stopped on your way home from work,” Jake said when she reached his side.

Our Publix? Did he even realize he’d said that?

“You’re right,” she replied. “So why are you here?”

“My apartment’s just around the corner.”

Ouch.

That simple statement shouldn’t hurt—she knew his apartment was near here—but it did. She nodded.

“I’ll help you out.” He gently nudged her hands off the cart handle and took over, setting his own bag on top of her stack.

Rachel paced alongside the grocery cart as they moved through the electronic door and knew a moment of joy that her parking spot lay at the far end of the lot. She would have a few extra moments to be with him. How pitiful was that? She eased a step closer, anxious to inhale his unique scent of soap, aftershave, and pure Jake.

He glanced over and caught her staring. Heat rushed to her cheeks, and she hoped he didn’t notice the flush.

“Jake, look out!” She grabbed the cart to stop it just short of a car backing out.

He gave her his sexy crooked Jake-smile. “Guess I should keep my eyes on the road.”

Her heart ka-thumped inside her chest. “At least until we get to the car.”

His smile went to an all-out grin.

Had she just flirted with him? Had it been that easy to get past her trauma for a few brief minutes?

Far sooner than she would have liked, he stopped the grocery cart next to her Honda and helped stow her bags in the trunk, leaving his in the cart.

“Thanks for helping me,” Rachel told him.

“I’m glad you decided to stop at this Publix tonight.”

“You are?”

“Yeah. I’m glad I got to see you.” Jake grazed a knuckle gently across her cheek leaving a streak of tingly nerve endings in its wake.

“But I thought you wanted . . . I mean, I haven’t heard from you . . .” She cleared her throat. “. . . in a long time. I thought you might’ve . . .”

Why couldn’t she finish a sentence tonight? Bad enough she felt pathetic, now she sounded pathetic.

“You thought I might’ve what?”

She swallowed hard. “Might’ve found someone else by now.”

He studied her for a long moment. “After all we meant to each other, you thought I’d go right out and grab a new girlfriend, just like that?” His mouth tightened to a thin line.

She hadn’t meant to rile him. The last thing she wanted to do was fight with him. Without thinking, she reached up and brushed two fingers gently across his lips, wanting that sensuous mouth to smile at her again.

She startled him, and he jerked at her touch. She whisked her fingers away. “Sorry. I don’t want you to be mad.”

His gaze trapped hers, his pupils expanding until little of the brilliant green remained. “There’s no new girlfriend, Rachel,” he said gruffly.

“No?”

He slowly shook his head, his all-dark eyes tracking hers. He seemed closer than he’d been a minute earlier.

She exhaled hard. “Not yet anyway.”

He frowned.

Why had she said that?

“No, not yet,” he said flatly.

“I’m glad,” she said quickly.

Screw pride.

“Are you?”

He was definitely closer now. If she eased forward just a few inches, she could press her lips to his, feel that certain sizzle that always flared when they touched. But Jake had walked out on her. His move. Though she ached with the need to hold him, if only for a second.

“Yes. Very glad. I don’t want you to find someone else—”

His lips brushed hers into silence—sweeping gently across as though seeking permission—the touch just light enough to make her lean in for more. He didn’t miss the movement and kissed her again, his lips settling on hers and nibbling at her lower lip.

The sensuous teasing had her knees growing weak, and she grabbed the placket of his dress shirt to steady herself.

He didn’t miss that movement either, and he cradled her cheeks in his big palms to deepen the kiss.

Suddenly lightheaded with desire, she twisted her knuckles into his shirt to keep him close. She didn’t care if they were kissing in front of God and everybody. If Jake wanted to throw her down here in the middle of the Publix parking lot, she was ready. She could always shop at Winn-Dixie.

Review: I read the first book in the Mystery Angels series and enjoyed it. This book however was more than I expected. This wasn't just a light mystery. You learn that when your opening chapters detail a teenager being abused by her mother's boyfriend.

So this isn't light fluffy reading.

It is good reading with a kind of "Touched By An Angel" twist to it.

This was a powerful read, dealing with a lot of issues you might not expect to find in a more "traditional" romance.

The pacing of the story was slow at times, but that didn't detract from the fact that it was a great story. One that had me reading into the early morning.

Review: I love books that absolutely scream BEACH READ! This is definitely one of them/ Its set in the summer months and involves three very different people who are on Block Island and how their lives get intermingled.

The three characters Anthony, Joy and Lu will grab you from the start. Each has problems and secrets of their own. They are very well rounded and actually pretty likable characters. I liked that Block Island isn't a playground for the upper class or the upper middle class too. That made it easier to like these people. They felt "real"

I think of all the characters it was Anthony, I connected with the most. His story of being the son of a famous author, who had a career briefly before a plagiarism scandal sent him on a downward spiral, was the most intriguing of the three. There's just so much to his story, and oh how I loved him. He wasn't just a guy someone fell for, he had a story of his own and it was interesting and sad...very sad indeed.

Lu was the character I grew the most frustrated with. Not really her, per se, but her husband and his weird idea. Truth be told, I probably would have kicked his butt to the curb. Cos OMG she hired a babysitter so that she could do something for herself. I found Jeremy to be a selfish jerk of a barely there dad.

Joy was the most down to earth of the bunch. Her life was a bit more average, but its through her and Anthony that everything ties together.

This was a book that I wanted to read in a lawn chair in the back yard with the sun beating down on me. The writing is engaging and it really makes you want to lose yourself in the story. At least that's how I felt.

Put this one in your beach bag!

Jax swaggered over just as the coffee pot beeped. He reached around me, leaning in close to take the pot, and pouring two cups before putting it back. “You always drink that much? I thought you were a health freak.” He dumped way too much sugar in the coffee.
        “It’s all about balance.” I shrugged putting a teaspoon of sugar in mine. “I’ll go to the gym tomorrow, and it will all balance out.” I sipped my coffee, watching him lean against the counter like he belonged in my kitchen. “Do you go?”
        “To the gym? Yeah, that one across town, Frankie’s.” He stared at the coffee, then me. “I’ve slept with too many women at World Fitness to go back. It got weird.” I nearly spit my coffee.
        “How many?” I looked into his gray eyes. Maybe it was the daiquiris, but Jax was sexy. In his button down, all the tattoos were covered, but I knew they were there. His arms had these skulls and stuff on them, but he never looked like a thug. He looked like a badass. Only Jax could pull it off. When he didn’t answer, I walked past him to the living room, and he followed.
        “Maybe eight?” Jax sat at the other end of the couch, slouching back in a classic manspread. I curled my legs under me, trying not to give him a clear shot up my skirt. At least my buzz left me a little dignity.
        “Maybe eight? You don’t know?” I teased, sipping my coffee.
        “No,” Jax said it like he couldn’t give me a number if he tried.

Review:

I'm trying to decide how I feel about this book, because I love Allie York. From the very start for
me Blair's job and her personal life don't seem to mesh. If you are a successful business owner
why would you be trying to date guys that work at smoothie bars?

 This was a sexy-ish story. Blair and Jax are kind of f-buddies, until they aren't. There's extreme
attraction between the two, but they both are players. They want casual contact and not
commitment. So yeah...there's a lot of sexy business going on and a lot of talk about sex.

 The to of them get together by accident; a broke down automobile leads Jax to take Blair home.

Sparks fly...and they keep on flying.

 I liked that theses two players fell for each other. I liked that it was ok that both Jax and Blair
could enjoy sex and it be ok. There's a discussion about being a slut or a whore that was funny
and spot on.

 The one thing though that bugged me, besides Blair who seems to date anyone with a penis, is
that other than sex, and, Ranger, the dog next door, her and Jax have no real reason to fall in
love.

 I realize this is a novella, but I do like a bit of real life in my books. If you are going to be in love,
there has to be something that gets you there, and good sex just isn't reason enough.

 The friends w/benefits aspect of the story worked, but the HEA didn't work for me. Still it was an
enjoyable read.

Review: If you love historical fiction there are a few names that should be on your must buy list, and Lauren Willig should definitely be one of them.

This is a long book for me. I'm usually a person that reads shorter books, so it takes a special author to get me to read what I call a "Chunker" Let's just say, I was reading this book along with 3 others. Its a slow book and I don't mean that in a bad way. Its that as you dive into Victorian Era Barbados, you really want to savor each beautiful word.

Emily's grandfather leaves her a sugar plantation as her inheritance. That's how she, her cousin and his wife end up in Barbados, only to find the plantation is pretty run down. Oh and its supposedly haunted.

This was a beautifully written well researched book that was a joy to read
