The coach gave an ominous groan as it finally gave up fighting the truck and gravity and fell toward the blacktop.
Time slowed as they were thrown from their seats. He felt weightless for a moment, and then a jarring thud to the ribs knocked the breath out of him. Darkness followed.
Seconds, minutes—who the fuck knew?—passed before a burning pain flooded his body. He tried to focus on where he was. His legs were tangled on something, the strap of Nik’s laptop bag. And it felt as though the bus had landed on his chest. It was impossible to draw a breath through the excruciating agony.
He tried to move his arm, but it felt like a thousand knives pressed deep into his skin. He vomited from the pain.
Fuck.
He looked to his arm and could see bone. The spins returned, and he was sick again.
Fuck.
Shudders racked his body.
Voices filtered through.
Jenny, oh fuck, sweetheart. Stay still.”
Nik.
Lennon couldn’t see him properly. Everything was blurry.
A child cried, but he couldn’t tell which.
He gasped in another breath, wincing as his ribs fought against the movement.
Elliott’s leg is broken!” he heard Kendalee shout. From his position on the floor he could see Pixie. Her eyes were closed and she was still. Jordan held her hand tenderly.
A cold sweat covered his skin, the bus suddenly frigid as air weaved its way toward him through the broken glass. He moved his gaze to the ceiling. Fuck, he could see the gray sky through the windows. What he wouldn’t give for just a moment of sunshine.
What he wouldn’t give for someone to hold his hand.
What he wouldn’t give to just be released from all of it.
His breathing became harder, his heart rate slowing.
The sun wasn’t going to come.
And he was alone.

About Scarlett Cole
The tattoo across my right hip says it all really. A Life Less Ordinary. Inked by the amazingly talented Luke Wessman at the Wooster Street Social Club (a.k.a. New York Ink). Why is it important? Well, it sums up my view on life. That we should all aspire to live a life that is less boring, less predictable. Be bold, and do something amazing. I’ve made some crazy choices. I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada were I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay.
I’ve wanted to be a writer for a really long time. Check through my office cupboards or my computer and you’ll find half written stories and character descriptions everywhere. Now I'm getting the chance to follow that dream.

Goddess Fish Book Tours Blurb Blitz: Edger

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. David Beem will be awarding a $50 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

It’s been said every story must start somewhere. Ours begins with a professional dork. The kind who fixes computers and lives in his gran’s basement. The kind tapped by destiny (that saucy minx) to become the world’s first superhero!

And not a moment too soon…

A nano-sized artificial intelligence is on the loose! It got itself dart-gunned into a cow butt by a frog man in a porn store! Two stoners are corrupting it on twitter! And that’s just the first three pages!!

Join our dork of destiny as he channels the collective unconscious—his psychic superpower—in a harrowing tale of high drama, romance, betrayal, revenge, jesus chickens, cocaine, weirdos, magicians, ninjas, nfl spies, and disco ball water torture administered to the tune of rapture, by blondie. My god, man, what does it all mean!?

It means uncorking that next bottle of wine isn’t only a good idea—it’s advisable.

Enjoy an Excerpt:

I drop the handful of ninja throwing stars back into their pouch on my utility belt and the overhead light glimmers off my hand, hitting the tiny silver nodules encircling the letter Z engraved on my superhero ring.

“Z is for Zarathustra,” says Mikey, noticing me looking at it. “As in Nietzsche’s ‘Superman.’ The goal of the human race is to produce a single cataclysmic individual who renders civilization as we know it obsolete.”

“That doesn’t sound like a good thing.”

“Depends on your point of view. To quote Nietzsche: God is dead. He’s been dead for a long time now. It’s why the world is the way it is. But you’re going to change that. For anyone who can access the Collective Unconscious, the future will be united in purpose, and not for any one person’s God—but for the wellbeing of all. Imagine a world like that.”

I gaze down at the ring on my finger and a not insignificant amount of trepidation hardens in my stomach.

“Sounds like you’re setting up this Zarathustra—me—to replace God,” I say.

“Are you religious?”

“No.”

“Then what do you care? Look. Relax. Enough of this God crap. Don’t take everything so seriously.”

“Ri-ight. Because when I think Edger Bonkovich, I think, now there’s a guy who’s taking life too seriously.”

The door opens to admit Mary dressed in yoga pants and a sports bra and my remaining ability to concentrate goes up in smoke.

Review: When I first started reading My Oxford Year, I really wasn't sure if I was really going to like it. The political element was a bit strong at the beginning of the book, and I thought, Oh no, I can't deal with politics in my chick lit, I just can't. Thankfully Ella's career wasn't want this book was about. Its also not really about Ella's trials and tribulations as she studies at Oxford although the university is the backdrop for the real story.

This book ended up being a delightful surprise. OK, delightful is too light of a word, but a wonderful surprise. Its chicklit, but its so much more than that.

No, this book is about Ella and Jamie. Jamie looks like a player, a guy that drifts from girl to girl, never staying with any one woman. At first meeting, she calls him a posh prat. Those feelings don't last long. There's a lot of chemistry between the two.  Ella is only in England for a year. So it seems they can come to an arrangement.

But there's more, a lot more that Ella doesn't know.

OMG!

Let's just say the trial that is mentioned in the book blurb is not what I was thinking when it came to Jamie. No, not at all. By the time you know all there is to know about Jamie, you love him as much as Ella. Let's just say that the comparison to Jojo Moyes is spot on.

In fact, to go on from here would really bring about spoilers I'm not willing to give. Suffice to say, this is a book that will stick with you long after you finish it.

You get some wonderful laugh out loud moments early on and then you get some really heart-wrenching moments as the book progresses. What surprised me is that the way this book was written, I didn't have any real burst into tears moments. Oh they were there, but there was no ugly crying going on, and I was kind of thankful for that.

This is also the only book that I scribbled a quote down to remember: "Love well those who are dying, so they may die in love."

If you need a book that will give you laughter and tears, this is definitely it.

Noelle Adams

On Monday morning, Jill overslept.
She set her alarm for seven, but it was seven thirty-five when she finally woke up. As soon as she registered the time, she flew out of bed and ran to the bathroom.
She hated being late. As much as it annoyed her when other people were late, she hated it even more when it was her.
She took a three-minute shower, grabbed an outfit that wouldn’t take any effort to pull together—a knee-length A-line dress in a vintage print—and snatched a handful of jewelry that might possibly work with it. She’d barely gotten her shoes on before she was rushing into the kitchen to get some coffee.
Michelle was at the counter with her laptop as she always was, eating cereal and working. But what surprised Jill was finding that Lucas was up too.
He didn’t have to work. He didn’t have a schedule. He could still be in bed.
But there he was, sitting at the counter with a cup of coffee, putzing on his phone. Wearing nothing but a pair of old sweatpants. His hair was mussed, he needed to shave, and he wasn’t wearing a shirt.
So the first thing Jill saw as she came into the kitchen was a whole lot of gorgeous male back and shoulders and arms.
She didn’t need to see that this morning.
She dumped her pile of jewelry on the counter as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
“Morning,” Lucas said, sounding friendly and casual.
What was he even doing up this early?
And why did he have to sound so awake? Awake and masculine. Awake and masculine and sexy.
First thing on a Monday morning.
She did her best to suppress a snarl.
“You’re running late,” Michelle said, without looking up from her laptop. “Did you oversleep?”
“I don’t want to talk about it.” Jill was trying to drink her coffee and put on her earnings, bracelets, necklace, and rings at the same time.
Lucas was watching her with laid-back interest in his green eyes.
She tried not to snarl at him again.
His eyebrows went up slightly, and she realized she must not have done a good job at the suppression.
She turned her back to him, reaching into the cupboard for a breakfast bar. She preferred to eat cereal, but she didn’t have time this morning. She kept her back to Lucas as she gulped down more of her coffee.
“You missed a button.”
She stiffened, glancing over her shoulder to verify that Lucas had been talking to her. “What?”
“You missed a button.” He gestured toward her dress. “You want me to get it?”
“I can get it,” she gritted out, contorting her arms until she could feel which button on the back of her dress was undone. Discovering it, she stretched her shoulders painfully so she could button it.
When she glanced back over at Lucas, she saw that his mouth was tilted up slightly.
He was laughing at her. Silently but definitely laughing.
She didn’t try to hide her snarl this time.
He didn’t have to be up and dressed and at work by eight in the morning. He didn’t have to sit there in her kitchen, looking smug and gorgeous and amused and irresistibly rumpled when she could barely pull it together.
What kind of malicious turn of fate had made him her roommate at all?
When she’d managed her button, she poured more coffee into her cup and took it with her, grabbing her bag on her way out as she left.
She did remember to mumble out a “See you later,” before she closed the door.
It was just the first Monday morning of Lucas living in her apartment.
It was going to be a long six months.

Author: Daisy Prescott
Genre: Romantic Comedy

Blurb

A new romantic comedy about love, letting go, and little green men from USA Today Bestselling author Daisy Prescott.

My father was abducted by aliens.
Or so I believed for the last eighteen years.

After my mother's death, I moved to Roswell, capital of all things alien. I’m going to find out the truth and nothing will stop me . . . except Boone Santos.

Compared to the intergalactic tinfoil hat brigade, he's a god amongst mere mortals. Too handsome for his own good (and mine), with a grumpy arrogance, and the most beautiful smile ever—he smashes my plan to pieces like a UFO crashing into the desert.

I need a tinfoil hat for my heart.

Do I believe in aliens? I’m not sure.
What do I believe? I’m not going to fall in love with Boone. Definitely not . . .

Review: Are you looking for a romance that's a little unusual and a little bit funny? If you are, Tinfoil Heart is definitely the book for you. When we learn that Lucy's mom has told her that her dad was abducted by aliens, well, that won me over.

Lucy was a fabulous mess and Boone was just not your average hero. I am always looking for romance that is different, not your typical boy meets girl type story. This book is definitely that, and that is what makes it so awesome.  Oh and can I just say that for a girl that hasn't had any book boyfriends in her 40 years of reading, I now have two of them, and Boone is definitely one of them. Boone is a quirky sort of wanna be alpha male, but not in the overbearing obnoxious kind of way you see in books that have billionaire in the title. Oh and the whole thing with the mustache, so freaking funny!!

I love the alien element, because I'm a bit of a crazy, love ancient aliens kinda girl. So a book set in Roswell just makes me so full of glee. Also, the diner where Lucy works reminds me of Mel's Diner from Alice and well, Wanda could definitely be Flo. All she needs to do is tell someone to "kiss her grits."

The pick your epilogue though was the best and seriously the most satisfying ending for me was the "Believer" epilogue.

Daisy Prescott is definitely on my must read list from now on.

Release Day Blast: Love Letters In Fortune's Bay

BLURB
Unrequited love was never on Reese Harvey’s checklist.
Moving from bustling New Orleans to tranquil Fortune’s Bay?
Done.
Opening a home restoration business?
In the bag.
Anything that keeps him from picturing his beautiful assistant rumpled in his bed.
Daisy Mae has two goals: make her impenetrable boss crack a smile and hope to heck he doesn’t discover her online blog, Love Letters Unrestricted.
When Reese stumbles across a draft of Daisy’s latest letter, he suddenly realizes she's been keeping her feelings for him under wraps--complete and undeniable loathing.
Only, all’s fair in love and war, and Reese is determined to change her mind. In the end, unrequited love just might be . . . requited.

EXCERPT
“Everyone color coordinates socks, Reese.” Daisy drew out a long pause, then cut him a side glance. “Those who don’t are heathens, anyway.”
That made him chuckle, and it was a test of strength that Daisy’s spine didn’t snap straight with awareness.
“Want to take a poll?” he asked. Without giving her the chance to respond, he pointed his water bottle at his cousin’s wife. “Matching socks? Yay or nay?”
Wide-eyed—no doubt because Daisy and Reese could be terrifying to outsiders once they got going—Lizzie peered under the table to check out her feet. A moment later, she faked a white-flag surrender with a wave of her hand. “I’m a heathen.”
        Crap.
“Gage?” Reese asked, tilting the bottle so that it pointed at his cousin. “Socks or no socks?”
To their surprise, Gage lifted one leg past the booth and showed off his bare leg. His khaki shorts stopped just above his knee, and on his feet he wore a pair of leather flip flops. “Heathen,” he murmured, “straight down to my core.”
        Double crap.
She lifted her gaze to Reese’s face. “And you?”
Smoothly, he slid from the booth and rose to his feet. His hands stayed locked onto his hips until she got the impression that he wanted her full attention—Reese rarely, if ever, made demands outside of the office.
The moment drew out, waiting, waiting, waiting, until Daisy finally scooted a foot to the right, curled her hands around the edge of the booth, and leaned over to get a gander at his shiny leather shoes.
        Another pause.
        And yet another.
And then he pulled up his slacks just far enough so that she could see his socks.
His matching socks—both were a bland gray.
It took every inch of strength to keep from throwing a fist in the air. “I knew it!” She pointed at his feet. “Matching, of course. I would seriously expect nothing less from a man who drinks his coffee with—wait, what are you doing?” Wide-eyed, she watched as he slowly, dramatically, toed off one shoe and then kicked off the other. “Reese?”
He wriggled his toes in his socks.
Socks, which had mismatching colored stripes across the toes.
Blue on one. Green on the other.
Daisy’s eyes darted up to his face, and . . . oh wow. Wow. In the three years that she’d worked for him, she had never—not once—seem him wear such a smile. It was wide and it was full and it made him look so many kinds of sexy.
Sinfully handsome, her brain offered up, he looks sinfully handsome.
It took her a moment to hear the words crossing his lips, and then another moment to actually digest them: “You don’t know everything about me, Daisy. Not yet, anyway.”
That was a challenge if she’d ever heard one, and Daisy couldn’t help it—she was intrigued . . . even if she was on a sabbatical from men.
