Q - Cozy mysteries and
recipes seem to go hand in hand, why do you think that is?
A – It’s a natural fit with
the reading demographic; that’s the industry explanation, I suppose. But I
don’t look at it that way. When I started writing cozy mysteries I said to my
sister, ‘These are my people!’. I
felt like I had found a home. Many of us are homebodies, most of us are women (not all, certainly) and so our
day-to-day life revolves around ‘What’s for breaksfast/lunch/dinner/snacks?’.
LOL. If you can read a book and find
out what’s good to eat, all the better!
Q - Your books always have
yummy recipes in them, what is your favorite thing to cook?
A – I love eating pasta, and
like cooking it. I love muffins and quick breads, and soup… especially soup! For
Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner turkey is a must so I can make gallons of
turkey soup!
Q - When you plot out your
books do you also plot out which recipes your characters are going to make?
A – Oh, yes! That’s
definitely a consideration. I want it to be season appropriate for the
character, and sometimes occasion appropriate.
Q - Your covers are so cute,
do you get any say in them?
A – Well, somewhat. I give
suggestions. Sometimes I send source material. Usually I just cross my fingers
and hope for the best, and I’m never disappointed!
Q - Do you have a favorite
cover from your two cozy series?
A – I refuse to answer on the
grounds that it may incriminate me… LOL! My books are like my children, so I
can’t say one is prettier than the others. And wait until you see the cover
from my first Teapot collector Mystery that I write as Amanda Cooper! It’s
adorable.
Q - What is next for you?
A – Well, right now I am
writing Book 4 of the Vintage Kitchen Mysteries. Jaymie becomes embroiled in
trouble at the historic home she is helping to restore. Her room to fix up is
the kitchen, of course; there may be something hidden in the house that someone
wants… or maybe not. I’ll let you all find out next November when the book is
published!

About Freezer I’ll
Shoot:
Trying to escape
her overbearing mother, vintage kitchenware enthusiast and soon-to-be columnist
Jaymie Leighton retreats to her family’s cottage on Heartbreak Island. While
there she hopes to write an article about the Ice House restaurant, owned by
good friends and neighbors, siblings Ruby and Garnet Redmond. Once and actual
icehouse, the restaurant is charmingly decorated with antique tools of the
trade, including a collection of ice picks.
One night, while
working on her article, Jaymie overhears an argument, and, ever the sleuth,
sets out to explore. But when she stumbles upon a dead body, her blood runs
cold. It’s Urban Dobrinskie, whose feud with the Redmonds is no secret, and
he’s got an ice pick through his heart. Now Jaymie’s got to sharpen her
sleuthing skills to chip away at the mystery and prove her neighbors’ innocence
– before someone else gets picked off…
