The Bookish Snob Promotions Guest Post: Keira Lea Author Of Replay

ReplayWhy I Love Hairless Cats

Kelsee Lewis, the main character of Replay, has a writing partner named Z. Braff. Before you run off to Google to see where you've heard that name before, let me tell you he has a small but puzzling role in the story. He's also a hairless cat.

Have you ever seen a hairless cat? My husband thinks they look like wrinkly, bald rats. I think they resemble Yoda's rosy niece. Their lack of a full coat gives them a unique standing in a feline world dominated by fur. When I started writing Replay, I knew one of these peach-fuzz wonders would be part of the story.

Kelsee feels like an outsider, someone who stands out because she is the new girl at school. She watches vintage Saturday Night Live episodes and calls on Gilda Radner's spirit to help her through the weirdness in her life. Not even her best friend Miranda helps Kelsee feel like part of the "regular" people in her world who don't have panic attacks with time-warp special effects.

I love the outsider. My novel is not autobiographical, but I identify with Kelsee. I would have been friends with her in high school. We would have put Z. Braff on a leash and walked through the neighborhood together. We would have shared our pride in being hairless cats in a world covered in fur.
