A Chick Ponders Bookish Things: Book Ratings

There was a whole blog hop dedicated to the 3 star (or in my case flower) rating. What do ratings mean to you? I review every book that I read. It helps me remember what books I've read. Plus I hope that someone might find a great new book because of something I've written. However, I made sure my ratings aren't derogatory.  If I give a book a 1 or 2 flower rating, it means the book and I didn't click. That doesn't mean someone else won't love it, it doesn't mean the author did a bad job.

I base my reviews on how the book worked for me, as well as the story. I seldom find myself reading books I'd consider one star, I can think of a few but they are few and far between.

I like to try to focus on the positives for the most part. I don't like engaging in author bashing, even if its a book I don't like...like erm...The Twilight Saga. I hate when people go into detail about why series should end etc. Granted, everything can't be positive, but I still try.

I will say this, I've never not read a book because of a review or rating that I've seen. I like to make my own decisions. So stars and flowers...they don't mean a whole lot to me for the most part....however I will tell you when a book is so fantastic that those 5 flowers mean, BUY THE BOOK NOW!

There's my 2 cents! What about you?

Ratings are the bane of writers, reviewers and readers . I judge a review more by what is written, I too do not write negatively even if the book wasn't for me..because that is just it..it wasn't for ME. I had someone from Amazon comment on my review, asking why i gave a three to a book my review praised. A three is not bad..in fact to me its a good solid read. One i enjoyed, but that didn't offer anything unique or will would drive me to re-read it..but a good read i would recommend. *shrugs*

I don't use a ratings system on my reviews as I think I'd probably spend more time deliberating what star rating to give them than I would writing the review. I do sometimes find it useful to view other people's ratings though if I'm in a rush.
