On My Wishlist #6

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where I list all the books I desperately want but haven't actually bought yet.

I think I've mentioned that I have a wishlist from hell right?

Melanie Benjamin - Alice I Have Been

Book Blurb: by goodreads

Alice Liddell Hargreaves’s life has been a richly woven tapestry: As a young woman, wife, mother, and widow, she’s experienced intense passion, great privilege, and greater tragedy. But as she nears her eighty-first birthday, she knows that, to the world around her, she is and will always be only “Alice.” Her life was permanently dog-eared at one fateful moment in her tenth year–the golden summer day she urged a grown-up friend to write down one of his fanciful stories.

That story, a wild tale of rabbits, queens, and a precocious young child, becomes a sensation the world over. Its author, a shy, stuttering Oxford professor, does more than immortalize Alice–he changes her life forever. But even he cannot stop time, as much as he might like to. And as Alice’s childhood slips away, a peacetime of glittering balls and royal romances gives way to the urgent tide of war.

For Alice, the stakes could not be higher, for she is the mother of three grown sons, soldiers all. Yet even as she stands to lose everything she treasures, one part of her will always be the determined, undaunted Alice of the story, who discovered that life beyond the rabbit hole was an astonishing journey.

Bronwyn Scott - Notorious Rake, Innocent Lady

Book Blurb: by goodreads

Determined not to enter into a forced marriage, Julia could see no way out--unless she were to become a ruined woman! Notorious rake Paine Ramsden was reputed to have no qualms about seducing innocents, so maybe he would help with her...predicament.

Certainly, Paine deserved his rakish reputation, yet Julia was so achingly pure, one night with her might just ruin him! Awakening Julia's sensuality aroused unfamiliar feelings in him--was it too late to make them both respectable?

Sarah Dressen - That Summer

Book Blurb: By goodreads

For fifteen-year-old Haven, life is changing too quickly. She's nearly six feet tall, her father is getting remarried, and her sister, the always perfect Ashley,is planning a wedding of her own. Haven wishes things could just go back to the way they were. Then an old boyfriend of Ashley's reenters the picture, and through him, Haven sees the past for what it really was, and comes to grips with the future

Great picks! Alice I Have Been sounds fantastic. I’ll have to pick it up sometime soon. Also, I read That Summer a couple of summers ago and enjoyed it a lot, though it's definitely not my favorite Dessen novel. Regardless, I hope you enjoy it when you finally get the chance to read it. :)

"Alice I Have Been" was okay, but I had a hard time getting past the creepy-factor. I've seen two articles about it within the last month where it was paired with "The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott", which was a *terrific* book. Lost Summer was definitely my favorite so far this summer.
